PHUKET: Police are investigating a German tourist falling eight stories from the roof of the small hotel where he was staying in Patong yesterday evening (Feb 20), sustaining serious injuries as he slammed into a noodle stall below.

Staff at the Orchid Resortel in Soi Sansabai reported the incident to police at 5:35pm.

Police arrived at the scene with Kusoldharm rescue workers to find a German national named by police as Bernhard Schartl, 54, on the floor inside the noodle shop. Above him was the hole in the ceiling he had just plunged through.

Mr Schartl was conscious and talking with emergency responders at the scene.

“He suffered some serious injuries, including a broken arm,” said Lt Col Weeraphong Rakhito of Patong Police.

I'd hardly call a broken arm a serious injury after falling from that height.

Lucky man thanks to the noodle shop parachute

Didn't they ask him what happened and why he was on the roof??

I bet we never hear from this again unfortunately.

But i agree that the balconyrailings in Thailand are too low for tall westerners...that's VERY dangerous.

"Look. We take precautions to protect tourist. We strapped him down so he does not try to fly again."

Did he start drinking since late morning? Lucky for him there was no bucket of water...

If he is awake he should be able to say "pushed" or "fell".

"Above him was the hole in the ceiling he had just plunged through.

So there was already a hole in the roof of the Noodle shop?

Another member for the Phuket flying club... OMG almost a daily occurrence. What is it about Thai hotels, faring tourists and the flying phenomenon? Must be something in the water!

Maybe the noodle shop doesn't do home delivery !

Good observation - guess that is how you become Lt...

Hope everyone in the noodle shop was ok. The owner could have had a heart attack.. a broken arm only would be a small price to pay...

A lesson learned maybe..

Did this happen right after he signed the papers, declaring his Thai GF the sole beneficiary of his estate?

Looks like he has had a few noodles in his day.

The noodle shop staff & any customers would have been surprised to say the least.

Look, flying Farang

  Probably not.

He probably made the hole in the roof as he landed on it

CSI: TVF must be on holiday. Come on, guys, start the exploitation!

Why everyone assuming he was pushed??? "They" did not ask him how he fell because of ?

Yes..Yes Yes to save someone embarrassment. ...he will look stupid if he says I fell because I was Drunk...

Or he was .....huh??????

Wasn't there any other way to order a bowl of noodles?????

I'm sure the noodle cart owner is seeking money for property damages from him

I think that guy was just trying to be funny. It seems pretty obvious that the roof or canopy saved the guys life by breaking his fall. If there was a hole already there, the guy would be dead.

I thought the rainy season was finally over...

The German (BMW) crashed into the noodle stall (Toyota).

Conclusion: The noodle stall exploded.
