Does anyone know or have any of you experienced first hand whether or not Thai Immigration is giving a grace period on having the 800,000 - baht in a Thai bank three months before applying for an extension for the O-A Retirement Visa?

If they do have a grace period, what is the period they have put in place?

Would 800,000 baht in Thai bank one or two months before renewal be accepted?

I would be primarily interested in Bangkok, but any information on other locations would be welcomed as well.

Don't forget you do not need Baht 800,000 in the bank, you could for ex. have a pension of Baht 600,000 a year coming in to Thailand and Baht 200,000 in the bank.

Do not believe there has been any set but up to now have not heard of anyone being on an extension of stay having to prove the 3 months. But it is very strictly enforced for new applicants.

That is good news for sure. This will be my 2nd extension of stay, so hopefully there shouldn't be any problem. Thanks.

Right, that is another good option as well.

I did a 2nd Extension of Stay, based on retirement, with 800k in the bank, at Chiang-Mai Immigration in early-November.

They were fine with this, understanding that the 3-month/800k rule had only been in for a few weeks, but were very clear that next time I'll have to meet the 3 month requirement too.

Hope this reassures you. Good Luck !

Ricardo,

Thanks for sharing your positive experience. Good to hear things went well for you.

I will be doing my 2nd Extension of Stay based on retirement with 800,000 in bank in early Feb. This will be well over "a few weeks" since implementation of new rules in Oct. I hope Immigration will allow it this time & require 3 months in bank next extension for sure.
