It's probably named for the CAT telecom round the corner... but there is a Soi Sophon named after the cable TV, which is quite communicationy... Also I think there is a new sign for Central road's big C Extra for the junction with Arunothai which is now named after a school or something which I can't recall despite going pass the sign everyday.... granted, it probably simplify things like police's radio and helps ambulance service Some of the already used official street names is even more confusing like Soi Bonkot where Bonkot means lotus... you'd thing that'd be the official name of Soi Buakhao (White Lotus) right?

Difficult without picture (Thai script). Phonetically it sounds like "diploma", "academic degree". But what sense could this make? On the other hand it could also be a "given name".
