Fact and fiction of new excise tax

This all started with headlines of a potential 100% increase and now the estimate from the video says 10-20%..........Normally an increase of that size would have everybody up in arms so wondering if they think people will take it better if it is not as much as first touted.........

To summarise for those who couldn't be bothered to watch the video :

A warning has stated that the following increases are coming :

Beer 30%
Wine 30%
Liquor 30%
Cigarettes - 90% of value

This is bad : Retail prices are going to be used to calculate the tax rates

This is good : But there is a ceiling rate which is in force for the next 20 years

They suspect that beer, wine, liquor and cigarettes might increase by between 10 and 20 percent due to the new tax rates

Whoever made this video estimates that this will probably happen on October 1 2017 or Jan 1 2018.

I'm confused. Why does anyone have to guess? Either about the increase, or the implementation timetable?

Surely someone has a plan, and can share the exact details.

What would also be of interest would be details on where, and when, various taxes are collected, who pays them and how they make there way into the government's coffers.

That would apply if people actually read the news. Not happening here, puat hua, TV soap are more interesting and all that. The only ones up in arms are the few that are in the know and TVF.

On the other hand, facebook is making a change here. One can always dream.

Thailand where the truth is more bizarre than fiction. 20% increase wow if they were ever looking for a Black Swan event here it is that. After sex alcohol is the next most endearing thing in Thailand. In the not to distant future I can see a poor Thai having to work all day for a can of beer. The poor will not take this laying down metaphorically speaking.

If people had read the original order and not taken notice of all the scaremongers, this so called uproar would never have happened.  'Experts'  on social media are the culprits.  Reading the original draft order and a little simple maths would result in a correct answer.   Instead the authorities have to respond to social media rumours. They have not 'backed down' as some have suggested.

Not that I'm a fan of any department, but sometimes, it's ourselves causing the problem.
