It's always a holiday in multiculti Pattaya for somebody!

Pattaya is an international city with a huge range of cultures and nationalities living and visiting here.

Yet for holidays, all most people here are aware of are the big Thai holidays (Songkran, Chinese New Year, etc.) and the big western holidays (Christmas, Halloween).

But I reckon every day of the year it's some kind of holiday for some people in Pattaya!

So that's what this thread is about.

A place to talk about the "other" holidays when they're happening.

Just for fun.

OK, people may ask.

If I'm not in that culture, why should I care?

Fair enough.

Again, just for fun, just for awareness of other people in town that are different than you, and sometimes there is special holiday FOOD involved that you can enjoy.

To start this out, today and tomorrow is PURIM.

It's based on a really cool historical story of ancient Persia.

It's celebrated with costume dress, feast eating, and the traditional pastries known as Haman's ears.

I don't think you can get the traditional pastries in Pattaya. The classic filling is black sesame.

But you can FEAST anywhere.

So please feel welcome to post any and all information that you might know about holidays/celebrations that mean something to any groups here, including national holidays like Bastille Day.

If there are local events, special foods available, going on for those groups, please post about it.

I recently learned about Persian New Year which is coming up this month. More on that later!

NOWRUZ (Persian New Year) is coming soon!

March 20, 2017.

It varies annually.

Don't forget the Festival of Charshanbe Suri where bonfires are made and NOWRUZ celebrants jump over the fires.

Will this be happening in Pattaya? Walking Street perhaps?

Don't forget the traditional spoon hitting.

There are special Iranian dishes for Nowruz but don't know if any of the local Iranian restaurants will be offering them.

City Hall wants it t be toned down at bit....we shall see what happens?

So far have over 20 floats signed-up to parade and the Thai Navy band to perform....all in all a good day out in the sun....:-)
