JaiMaai
If you're looking to go to Khon Kaen for nightlife involving female comapny I wouldn't waste your time going there.

4MyEgo
Was there just the other day, busy place, The Pullman Hotel looks nice with bars in the side street, although I haven't stayed overnight yet. Central Plaza seems to have a lot of eye candy and worth a visit. If your driving watch out as there are signs stating speed cameras and 80km limit, though I was back in Oz for a minute, started stressing, even put my seat belt back on which I haven't done in over a year. Kwasaki
No Russians in many places, the Ruskies are no worse than any other individual driven idiot from all the other tourist visting countries around IMO. All Thai large type cities all look much the same to me, rode through Khon Kaen a few times can't say whether l'd wanna stop there.
Rc2702
Given the reasoning I'd do what you have already done but on your own. It should be very different experience I would imagine.my first few visits to Thailand was with an ex too and bkk was way better on my own. chudless
Def worth a visit. There is good food and fanny available, buts by no means anything like BKK, Patts, and so on. It's readily available though. Consider Udon also, for same reasons but bigger 'obvious' nightlife scene.
DoctorG
Sure, stop off for a night or two on your way to somewhere else. Any longer and you will be bored.
SpeakeasyThai
A few bars and some nightlife but limited. I went there once out of curiosity and whilst it was moderately ok and enjoyable i feel as if there is no need to ever rush back there in a hurry. Would i go there again?......i doubt it. recycler
Basically every provincial town in Thailand looks almost the same, so I wouldn't bother if you are not visiting someone in particular.
BsBs
Is Khonkaen worth the visit? Yes definitely. if you like useless city, unorganized with nothing to see or nowhere interesting to eat. But you can also trust people who think that all shiiitehole cities in the world deserve to be visited !
Bangkok Barry
No. If you want to go to the region then Nong Khai is a better place to visit. Has a river to eat beside.

Rumor has it that Udon Thani or Nong Khai might be a better hunting ground.. but if that is what you are after .. stay in Pataya..
blazes
Stop one night at the Pullman ( a really hi-so hotel, for Issan). From the wide windows of your room on the 19th floor, you can see the unending flatness of Issan, and this in itself should be enough to tell you that you should be on your way the next morning. If you're looking for the life horizontal, you'd be better advised to find someone via a dating site who lives in KK. Someone with a half-decent job and education. Top man
IF you want a life style change, are married to a Thai, had enough of the Farang country, and would like to live like a Thai then yes, oh and of semi retired age.But if you're looking for what you're looking for, i would definitely say no.speaking from experience. Enoon
KK is as good a place as any to start finding out about "ordinary" Thai life. But if you want: "night life, girl availibility decent accomodation etc... not got huge tastes, just want a few birds and some food mostly lol" .............there is absolutely no point in you going anywhere else other than Pattaya. Mansell
I just literally flew back from Udon Thani a couple of hours ago.....not a place I would get excited about. And the temp was hitting a 100 last few days.....I am happy to be back in Phuket by the beach.....and I don't mean Patong or any of the other tourist traps. Has anybody been to Roi Et, and what did you think?

Has anybody been to Roi Et, and what did you think? You wouldn't get excited about Roi Et. I lived there for 4 years or so. It's a decent place, but as most things in life it depends on what you're looking for. Never going back myself, too many bad memories as my 22 yo son died there last April. I live in Khon Kaen now, and I really like it. I'm a translator and a workaholic, though, my experience might be very different from others as I don't go out much, if at all. Like I said, it all depends what you're looking for.

blazes
Roi Et is Nakhon Nowhere par excellence. To be fair, it does have (what most Thai towns do not) a "Centre", which is quite nice and peaceful, called Bung Palan Chai (not sure about the spelling there). Public aerobics...a good chance to take a decko at the local talent (of all ages). The usual dating sites seem to have a decent choice of pooying from Roi Et. Alas, I met a sexy sweetheart who wanted a huge sin sot....reluctantly I had to say good bye.
