There were far, far, far too many  "much loved husbands, fathers and grandfathers" let alone, wives, mothers, grandmothers and daughters, granddaughters and grandsons  who were blown-up or otherwise murdered by McGuinness and his ilk to have any sympathy for his death. What about the Mountbatten's, are you sorry for them?

 

Are you sorry for all these Nationalists who also unnecessarily lost their lives or were crippled because of this mans vanity and greed for power?

You would need to go back just a little further than that. He would have been 26 then and was already 2nd in command of the Derry IRA since the age of 21 years old. That was the day that British soldiers murdered 14 civil rights marchers.

Nothing to do with political persuasion.

 

Just a show of respect for a man who saw violence had failed and had the courage and stature to take the men of violence with him into peace talks.

 

He was one of the very few who had the credibility to do this and the risk he put himself at when he did so should not be underestimated. 

 

He played a major role in ending the troubles and giving Ireland hope.

 

Of course I wouldn't expect everyone to see that.

 

However it is still true.

Hey, you must be one of Trumps fake news providers, just twisting the facts of history to suit your twisted point of view - so all the people mentioned in your ancient accounts were lovely peaceful protestors, just mown down by the bad old Brits????? - not so if you really study the historic facts + a very good portion of those old days troops would have been Irishmen. How do you account for that? Or the many, many Thousands of truly gallant Irishmen and women who died in the service of GB during the last 2 World Wars and in all the wars since.

 

The fact is that the more recent (since the late 60's) troubles in Northern Ireland were Irish killing Irish (helped by misguided US money). Illegal occupation? The British Army were in the north because the Majority wanted to remain part of GB and were actually there to protect both sides, but naturally retaliated when attacked and fired upon. 

 

Lots of myths about gallant the IRA, but the truth is they were cowardly traitors, hated by most people in the south who wanted nothing to do with their murderous politics after Irish Independence.

 

I don't think his few (questionably) good deeds in the last few years make up for all the murder, torture and mayhem McGuinness promulgated before.

What did you make of the Enniskellen remembrance day bombing 30 years ago this year?

 

The day someone dies is not the time to stir up a sh1t-storm, & certainly not by rubbing the noses of present generations in the actions or otherwise of their forbears. If anyone feels otherwise I'd gladly join in if we (yes the ENGLISH too) could first start at the Romans, followed by the Danes, Normans........

RIP Martin McGuinness. He, like the UDF and, at times the British army were guilty of cold-blodded killing. As an Irishman brought up aa a Protestant in Dublin & never supported the IRA but I also didn't support the gerrymandering and outright bias against the minority (in jobs, police, local government) that was endemic in Northern Ireland before a peaceful solution was found, thanks to the like of George Mitchell, Desmond Tutu, Tony Blair and, yes, even Martin McGuinness & Ian Paisley.

 

No doubt he was a flawed individual but at least one other of those I mentioned above had a lot more blood on his hands.

I condemned this act as did Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness.  

 

"I hope there will be no more Enniskillen's and I am deeply sorry about what happened in Enniskillen," Mr Adams told the BBC.

"But I think we can only have a guarantee of a peaceful future when we tackle the root causes of the conflict and when we resolve them," said the leader of Sinn Fein, the political wing of the IRA.

 

We could go around and around with this contentious topic. The reality is the British should never have been in the North of Ireland and to quote many people on here in regards to Thailand.....................if they weren't there then none of this would have happened.

I fear this is incorrect Recently in the Northern Ireland elections Sinn Fein polled 224,245 votes up 3.9% to 27.9%. That's significantly more people than will mourn your death when you go.

This is from all the innocent women and young children blown up in car bombs in Germany when I was stationed there, for the innocents blown up, shot and murdered across the province and the UK mainland. He shows no shame for the death, grief and misery he visited  upon many, many innocent families.  I served in NI for 3+ years with an infantry regiment, much of the time in a surveillance role and can tell you that far from being some kind of noble Irish patriot, he was leader of a sordid, psychopathic murder gang.  He only stopped because his family was getting older and he was scared they would get involved, the IRA was heavily infiltrated right up the chain of command and the net was closing in on him. I hope there is a God because this vile man is in for a shock.
