BANGKOK: -- Visa applicants in Bangkok can now use VFS Global’s new On Demand Mobile Visa service in connection with planned visits to the United Kingdom.

The new service enables people to apply for a visa to the UK from the comfort of their own home or office.

It is a first-of-its-kind service and will be available exclusively for applicants in Bangkok.

The On Demand Mobile Visa service is ideal for individuals who are time-sensitive and value the personal, private service it provides.

The service will also be convenient and economical for large groups of people travelling to the UK, such as corporate groups, college-campus groups, or members of film production units, who do not wish to travel to visa application centres for this purpose.

Tosaporn Sihanatkathakul, executive director of The Landmark Lancaster Hotel Group, who was the first applicant to use the service, said the new service was quicker and easier than other means of applying for a UK visa.

Brian Davidson, the UK’s ambassador to Thailand, said: “The new initiative enhanced further the services the embassy offered to make Britain more easily accessible to Thai friends and partners.”

Sriram Narayan, VFS Global’s chief operating officer – Australasia, said he was confident the new service would be well-received among UK-bound travellers looking for flexibility and convenience in the application process.

“Innovations that add value and enhance customer service are of core importance to our business,” he added.

The service is available by appointment – on weekdays only – and charged separately.

WOW unbelievable cost, especially considering the info they provide, i.e. all it means is it saves a trip to Bangkok for a mere 50,600 THB, bargain of a lifetime, will be over subscribed I'm sure!

  • How much will this service cost me?

The cost of the service will depend on the size of the group and the location. Please see the pricing table given above. Not only is our pricing competitive, you will also avoid the associated costs of travelling to one of our visa application centres and taking time off work.

  • Will my application be processed more quickly?

Your visa application will be processed in exactly the same way as any other. Eligible applicants also have the option of our 5 day priority visa service.

  • Will this service improve my chances of success?

Your visa application will be processed in exactly the same way as any other.

Now if only we Brits could similarly renew our passports from the comfort of our homes or offices instead of having to make 2 arduous physical trips to With-It Tower!!:ermm:

You don't have to go, you can pay someone else to go for you (a lot less than 50K)

Of course, you don't HAVE to make 2 arduous trips to Bangkok.

But, to save that effort you will have to pay for the services of a third party.

And the price is, for those interested,  "Applicable charges – 50,600 THB for a group of (1 – 5 applicants), every additional applicant will be charged 10,120 THB"

In addition to the visa itself of course.

Oh look mum! VFS have planted a new money tree!

How much it would cost u if u do it all on ur own?

Depends on the type of visa applied for and exchange rates.

The current fee for a 6 month standard visit visa is £87. But for reasons which the Home Office have never adequately explained, UK visa fees are charged, and can only be paid in, USD: at an exchange rate set by and favourable to the Home Office! This means the current fee is actually $113.

At today's rate of 0.80068 USD to the pound (source) that means you'll actually be paying £90.48 for a visa Parliament says should cost £87!

Using the same source, $113 is 3913.38 THB.

If applying for settlement the fee set by Parliament is £1195, but applicants are charged $1554. At today's rate, that's £1244.26!

Note that UK visa fees are usually increased each April, so expect a change soon.

The service in the OP is provided by VFS and the fee for using it paid to VFS; hence the charge being in Baht.

BTW, it's been available in China since 2013.

My wife applied for her visa while I sat here in my office at home... A printer and ideally a scanner and email saved me from moving by butt off the sofa.

Her visit visa involved a copy of her divorce papers. I doubt that the visa company could have got those for her.

Interested to know how a TB test or language test could be done from the comfort of an office for a settlement visa either.

One trip to Bangkok is all that's needed and no matter where your wife or girlfriend is living in Thailand and the trip will certainly cost a fraction of the 50000 baht you need to pay the company mentioned. Is the 50000 baht the ferang price or the Thai price?

UK visa applications are now made online. But all applicants still have to attend the VAC to submit their supporting documents and have their biometrics taken.I cannot see that individuals would be interested in this.

This new service means that instead of the applicant going to them to do this, they will come to you.

Due to the cost, I can't see an individual applicant being interested in this.

But were I a teacher, for example, taking a large group of students to the UK, then I could see the attraction of using this service rather than all of them trooping to Bangkok to give their biometrics.

I can see why it would be an attractive option but where would a school get that kind of money? Unless it is a private school, of course.

I used school as an example.

It could be useful for any other large group; as it says in the OP

Last time my sister in law visited we ran into a large group of Thai students visiting the UK at St. Pauls. Would have been useful for them.

Can't remember the name, but I remember seeing a Thai film with location shots on the Jubilee line. Useful for them as well.

But not, as I said, for individual applicants; unless their wealth allows them to stay separate from the hoi polloi!
