Customs Department says all import and export businesses must be registered as authorized EDI agencies b/f next year

The Customs Department announced that all import and export businesses have to register as an authorized Electronic Data Interchanges (EDI) agency before January 1st, 2007 since Thailand plans to apply the international customs tariff.

Mr. Sathit Limpongpan, the Customs Department Director-General, said his department will reorganize its operation by concentrating on electronic applications for customs clearance as it could help minimize the number of work processes. The department will introduce the E-Custom system to help cut down the transportation cost and the system will enable the country to follow the international customs tariff. The new system will be fully operational next month.

Mr. Sathit added that the Customs Department will initiate the harmonized customs tariff issue No. 2007 simultaneously with other ASEAN countries.

Therefore, it is required for all import and export businesses to be registered as an authorized EDI agency before January 1st, 2007 in order to show the country’s capability.
