Picture: Thai Rath BANGKOK: -- A video of a seriously overloaded pick-up heading for Bangkok caused an online furor on Thursday. People asked how on earth the police could let that one through their checkpoints! The pick-up in question was loaded so high with rattan tables and chairs that it almost hit signs over the road. And the massive load teetered precariously over the back of the vehicle as well - with the flimsiest red cloth to "warn" motorists coming up behind. Thai Rath were advised by the land department and the police that it was indeed illegal to have such a load. They would be examining the footage to see if they could take retrospective action. The poster of the clip - Naret Suanplai - told the media that he took the video after filming on the Mitraphap Highway heading into Bangkok on Wednesday. The footage was viewed 150,000 times by yesterday after it was posted on the popular Facebook fanpage Youlike (clipdet). Ive watched Police drive round a 4 foot by 2 foot metal cage in the middle of the road which obviosuly fell off something and yet they failed to stop to remove it and all the potential accidents it may have caused............did the driver of the filming vehicle have both hands on the wheel? You won't believe how many idiots think they can drive this way into BKK. Also i have seen them loosing their load on the mainroad in BKK. If the cargo doesn't extend past the front bumper, past the sides, and is less than 5 meters total height then no problems there. Canopy post 17 is the only one post that sees the reality. The truck is not overloaded. It is all done with in the rules and regulations. No weigh just bulk and stored legally as cargo. Several years ago before the military take over,the PM proposed a law that companies or individual that owned the trucks with over loaded loads were the ones to be fined heavily and the truck taken off the road.The idea of fining the owners was a good start but it took the bribe money going to the police and gave it to the Transportation Department. The police themselfs actually opposed this law in a demonstration at the Transportation department.so no law went into effect.Thus allowing the BIB to continue collecting their bribes.Why you see cops letting them go in that the bribe has been paid before hand.
