FaceBook Groups: WATCH OUT!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

A few years ago, I decided to start to make a FaceBook group.

First, the members were only family and close friends, but soon other members were added to the group.
Everything seemed to work fine, until recently.

I noticed a member, who was disrupting the group with all kind of posts which were not related in anyway to the group.
But this member's name was "greyed out" and selecting the member did not offer the option to "Block" or "Delete" the existing member.
Still, this particular person was still able to post.

The situation became even more strange when I looked up in the members list and this member was not in the members list.

I decided to write a letter to the Help Desk of FaceBook, but as soon as I typed the question title, a lot of letters of other members with the same question appeared.

It seemed that when a member decide to Block the Adminstrator(s) of that Group, that member will appear in the discussions as "greyed out" and the Adminstrator(s) are unable to "Delete" or "Block" that member.
The member would also not appear on the member list.

FaceBook was aware of this "problem" and was "looking for a solution", but nothing had been done by Facebook until now.

Suppose you want to open a FaceBook Group.
Someone (you might know or you might not know) is asking to join the Group.
As soon as you accept his membership, this member Block you and all the Adminstrators of the Group.
Then this member start to make bad posts about the Royalty.
There is no way to find the posts of this member because he is not visible to you.
YOU will go to jail because of this member as you didn't "Delete" the posts in a timely manner.

I want to warn all members of ThaiVisa about this bad programming in FaceBook and to take care with FaceBook Groups.
Reading the Help Desk made me aware about a lot of shortcomings in FaceBook that are never addressed and problably will never be addressed.

Interesting.. I will test it out with one of my groups.. meantime you could add promote a friend of yours as admin and then ask him to remove this guy from the page.

In Clip1.jpg, you can see that the Group member Nick Lloyd is "greyed out", but nonetheless is still able to post.
In Clip2.jpg, you can see that the Group member Nick Lloyd can not be found in the member list.

Making a member "Admin" can be tricky.
Once you make that member "Admin" he can Block/Delete you (the owner if the group) as well.
If that member would have ill intentions, he can Block/Delete you and then leave the group.
Thus the group would have nobody who can manage the group. but still you would have the ownership of this group.
Imagine somebody posting "Lese Majesty" material in that group (you are the owner of the group) but you are unable to Block/Delete any post because there is no "Admin".
Not funny.
I founded the group because a previous group with a similar name had this problem and FaceBook Help was unable/unwilling to offer any help on this.

Yeap I understand. Hence I mentioned make some friend or Gf or wife..someone you trust as a temporary admin. Just a suggestion.

Set up a second account and make yourself temporary Admin.

This is maybe a temporary solution.

But it doesn't change anything to the bad programming of FaceBook Groups which allows a member to bypass an Administrator.
If ThaiVisa would be programmed like FaceBook it would be a disaster.

...um.  It is.

Hence 'this' in Forum Rules:

You will not block contact with moderators or administrators. Doing so will result in suspension.
