ABC Iview

A fairly simple question. I am just wanting to know if anybody is using a VPN and can access ABC Iview in Australia?

 

Just as a follow-up to that too I should ask if he has been consistent for you and of course who it is?

If you use the ABC iview Kodi addon by "Jay888" you don't require a VPN.

 

It works perfectly for me in Bangkok. No buffering issues at all.

Just started my VPN and it works fine.

Not a single outage/buffering within a couple of minutes.

Works better than to comparable German services.

A company that moved it's domicile from Germany to Romania for legal reasons (no logs).

Their server list is "Euro centric" but still has a wide spread base worldwide.

 

Maybe there are cheaper VPN solutions for Australia.

There is a lot of information on VPNs in the forum.

I will lookup tomorrow if no other member jumps in.

DNS proxy services also work for watching ABC iview. Some VPN providers will include a DNS proxy service in their package. Otherwise there are many providers that sell the proxy service on it's own.

 

If the objective is only to get around geoblocking, DNS proxy is almost always a better choice than VPN because it only tricks the server you are connecting to into believing you are located in e.g. Australia rather than actually routing your internet connection through a VPN server in that country.

 

The advantages are that since you are connecting directly there isn't the bandwidth overhead inherent in a VPN connection. Generally that will mean less likelihood of buffering. The other is that the computer or device you are watching TV with isn't forced to unnecessarily route all other internet traffic (email etc.) through the VPN thereby slowing it down.

 

I use a VPN package from Ironsocket (https://ironsocket.com) which includes a DNS proxy service. It fits the bill for me but as KhunBENQ says there may be better/cheaper options if you only want to watch Aus TV.

Thanks I wasnt aware of this as an option but yes geoblocking is the result i'm after and I couldn't care less about privacy. Maintaining a higher bandwidth connection is definitely more appealing also.

 

I also note ABC Iview appears a little more sophisticated as I can watch the BBC Iview using Hola but ABC Iview is wise to it!

Just put Kodi on my Desktop but unable to find any addon by Jay888 i'm not overly familiar with Kodi but I know my way around a PC.

 

Any chance you could hold my hand a little more on this one?

Did a quick search and luckily there is a youtube tutorial for both the ABC Live & iview addons.

 

The tutorial is done on the old version of Kodi and you have probably just installed the more recently released version 17.1 Krypton. Yes Kodi is really good albeit a bit tricky to get started on. I uses Kodi on both my desktop pc and on my media player or is it called TV box. 

 

Endless options on what you want to watch, I just hope they will start doing 4k.

You should install a VPN. I’ve seen that you’re advised to use CyberGhost. Well, I’ve been using it for about a year and never had complaints. Hope it’ll be helpful. Plus, you can read some useful info about unblocking streaming services here. Good luck!

Kodi has video add ons for content.

The latest ABC iView video addon for Kodi is version 1.7.6 - see here.

 

If you want catchup TV from the other FTA service providers and have an Australian VPN you can find other channels here.

 

I don't know if they all work though.

You can play your own 4K movies, if your box can play them.
