The nation yesterday observed the 235 year anniversary of the Rattanakosin Era with celebrations and religious ceremonies in remembrance of the sacrifices of the kings of the Chakri dynasty in preserving and ensuring the sovereignty of the Thai kingdom.

The event was observed with sermon ceremonies by all the five religions in the country, namely Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Hindu-Brahmin and Sikhism.

This very important ceremony not only highlights the tolerance of different beliefs in the country but also a recognition of the monarchs of the Chakri dynasty’s benign generosity in ensuring that people of numerous religious beliefs are allowed to live in harmony and prosper in the Thai kingdom.

235 years ago on April 21, His Majesty Rama I established Bangkok as the capital of the kingdom. He also planted the first Bangkok City Pillar Shrine and built the Grand Palace as well as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha as the first official buildings in the capital.

In Bangkok, Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan officially presided over a religious ceremony at the auspicious time of 8.09 am in front of the Bangkok City Pillar Shrine to mark the 235th anniversary, the Nation reported.

Will they install a commemorative plaque?

Yep! A commemorative plaque that commemorates the stealing removal of the original commemorative plaque. Probably a plastic one that's easier to remove.

Didn't Prayut just recently say, "Would it be better for us to look ahead at the future? Old subjects are just history."

Maybe the exception are those subjects that reinforce the military's future.
