Hello,

I ran in a little problematic situation. I was here in Thailand on visa exempt stamp and was already on 4 week extension. A few weeks ago an old health problem with my back apeared again. I have strong backpain and although I can easily walk I can absolutely not sit. Currently maybe 2 or 3 minutes are possible, not more. As my visa was running out, I went through the whole process of extension for medical emergency. A Thai friend helped me to get all documents ready and in the end immigration accepted everything and gave me an extension up to the date shown in the medical certificate.

My situation here has become a little bit better now, but it is likely I will not be able to fly on the date shown in the certificate. The doctor in the hospital already said, he will give me a new certificate telling it is still not possible for me to fly. But I am not sure if immigration will accept another extension for medical reasons. I already got 3 weeks after the end of my visa. Does anyone here have experiences with situations like this and does anybody know if another extension for medical reasons is even possible.

Just to let you know: I do this, because I can not sit. I have a family at home waiting for me and I do not have an interest to stay more than absolutely necessary. As soon as I can sit 1 hour/day I will take a business class flight back to Europe,  because they do have kind of bed so I can travel in a comfortable position, but currently I could not even sit in an upright position for start and landing. If anyone ever had similar problems and had to do more than one extension for medical reasons it would be great to hear about that.

As long as immigration is satisfied that you are genuinely unable to travel for medical reasons, they will continue to issue you medical extensions indefinitely. The fact that they granted the original extension, in conjunction with the fresh medical certificate from the same source that furnished the first, makes it very likely that you will be OK.

I hope the condition goes into remission sooner rather then later. I know how painful back problems can be.

I fell and broke a bone in my  left arm in February 2017.

I had to have an operation to reset that bone and put a metal stet in to clamp the bone together.

The doctor who did the operation in the hospital has requested I stay in Thailand during the recuperation period from that operation, as he is watching the bone's regrowth every two or 3 weeks.

So far I am on a medical extension on my 60 day SETV until may 27th 2017.

You will need to have the doctor who is treating you write a request for an extension of stay, and the immigration medical nurse at CW will have to approve that request.

As I say it is possible as I now have a medical extension by the doctor's request and I may get another one for another 30 day stay if the doctor/surgeon thinks it is required.

My next doctor's exam will be 17 May, and depending on his opinion he may request another 30 day recuperation period extension.

I do not know whereabouts in Europe you are trying to get to, but there could possibly be another solution if finances are not an issue, and the problem persists. There are sometimes cruises out of Bangkok to destinations in Europe, such as Southampton. This could furnish you with a pleasant way to return, albeit one that is a bit slow and far from cheap.

Tank you to everybody for the help. It is good for my peace of mind to know they will not throw me out of the country as long as I have problems. I will also consider the cruise ship. Might be good for my health...absolutely nothing to take care about and good occasions to do gymnastics and swimming.

I know many people who have back-to-back medical extensions.  As long as the condition continues and the documents are "in order" you should be able to obtain the extension.

Sometimes, Immigration does at-home visits to those on long-term medical extensions to make sure they really are bed-ridden, unable to travel, end-of-life, etc.  I doubt this will be an issue for someone having extensions for just a few months.
