I've been paying about 4.5 baht per kWh ever since I came here back in 2011.  If the rate has gone up, the landlord (mother in law) hasn't said anything to me about it.

MIL is making from you then government rate is at present 3.75

I do a quick calculation every month when I receive the bill. My cost per Kwh is consistently 4.01 to 4.05 Bt per Kwh, including VAT. This has been the cost per unit for as long as I can remember.

The bill I received yesterday is 2563.09/638.0 units consumed = 4.01738 per unit. If I deduct VAT it's 3.7539.

If you live in a condo or apartment, the management is most likely hitting you with a surcharge.

I'd appreciate a link to support that, so I can cut my payment accordingly.

I calculated that based on a bill I saw some years ago.  I had no idea the rate had gone down since then.

Over the past six months I have seen my electricity bill reduce to an all time low of  756B to no higher than 890.00 but then my air conditioning was inoperative for three of those months.  However, after repairs the cost rose to 1110B, 1460B and the last bill 1680B, (extreme heat).  As far as charges being increased, haven't noticed any so far.

We live in the north east and have a three bedroom home and plenty of electrical appliances, as well as 15 security lights operating 8 hours a night.  So taking everything into consideration I am quite happy with the charges at the moment.

The current bill equates to around A$65.00 for the month, which when you compare that to back home, anywhere between A$200 (B5000) to A$1600 (B40,000)a month and higher, I cannot whinge about the charges here.  :wai:

That fits,

The price per unit for a private unit can vary between about 3.34 and 4.30 Baht/unit depending on consumption.

A price increase due to the adaption of the fuel surcharged ("Ft") is far from described price hikes of the OP.

Currently (up to April) the surcharge is indeed a deduction of -0.3729 Baht/unit.

From May the Ft "surcharge" will go to -0.2477 Baht/unit.

A price increase of 0.1252 Baht/unit.

Electricity bill calculator:

http://www.mea.or.th/en/aboutelectric/116/280/form/12

"1.2" is the usual tariff for private households.

There has always been a mystical deviation of 0.01 Baht from the total sum in the printed bill

Thanks for that.  I can't dig up any bills at the moment, so I'll wait till the next one comes.  I checked my spreadsheet and I'm actually using 4.2 as the rate, which is close enough.  This is just for the two rooms in the house that I have claimed as mine (bedroom & large office) and where I run the a/c most of the time.  I put a meter on both rooms so I can't be called a free loader.

I feel you ! On day some guys from the power department came and changed the meter in front of the house. They told my wife the old one was outdated .. since then the bill has doubled and they refuse to come check it .. as always in Thailand you can't argue with the government institutions.

Either they made a mistake in setting up the new meter or it's due to the weather that makes AC's work double time.

neither nor! the 7kWh usage tallies exactly the information of the OP and Crossy's calculation. based on the hot weather nowadays and a low temperature setting the small 9k btu/h unit must have run a 100% compressor cycle. no more intelligent suggestions/explanations required.

Our electricity bill goes up with every appliance you add to your household. Don't forget that the bigger the screen on your television, the more electricity it uses.

Electrical cost per unit will rise every year for the next 20 years according to the government.

As a side note, if you are going under financially because your bill went up 1000 baht, you probably should understand the world is changing and costs are increasing.

Just because the cost stayed the same for 10 years does not mean the cost will stay the same forever.

Electric went up a year or so ago and there raising the price per unit again either now or very soon

Now theres a few saying its going up again soon. So i took it upon myself to ask at the local PEA as i was passing it anyway today on route to global house. They (one lady behind the desk and her supervisor) assured me that there are no orders or plans in the near future to increase the electricity price. Untill at least oct/nov. Even then they are not sure its going to happen. Time will tell
