Large cyst in left breast - need suggestions where to do "fine needle aspiration"

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have been diagnosed with having a  cyst in my left breast, about 6 months ago, and it seems to be getting bigger, and painful at times.

I am a male (so not much of a breast )

I would appreciate if anyone could give my some recommendations where i can get fine needle aspiration done in Pattaya, Sattahip or anywhere in  Chonburi province for that matter.

Ideally it should be done with ultrasound so they can see if they are in the right spot.

The quote from BPH was over 100K which is why i have not yet it done

I was thinking of maybe Queen Sirikit in Sattahip.

If you have had something similar done recently please can you let me know where and an indication of the cost.

U/S guided FNA should not be expensive, I had it done at Bumrungrad five years ago and it cost under 16,000 baht!

If all else fails, come up North and go to Mahraj or Sriphat and the cost savings will pay for your airfare and hotel, at least. BTW it's painless and quick. Moderator Sheryl is the person to contact on TVF for an expert opinion.

Queen Sirikit should be able to do it, so should Phyathai Sri Racha and Samitivej Sri Racha.

Suggest you email [email protected] to find out costs of doing it there, Samitivej will be about the same and Queen Sirikit will be less.

Certainly should not be anywhere near 100,000, though I think 16,000 is too low esp. if biopsy needed (prices have gone up at Bumrungrad greatly in past 5 years).

I managed to get a reply from Gavin at Phyathai.

It seems the cost is about Bht. 100,000 which is just slightly less than BPH

Dont know why Phyathai needs  to include overnight stay, all the search i dont showed that this is an outpatient service in and out in 1 hours maybe.

All they do is apply some local anesthetics, stick a needle in you, guided by ultrasound , and suck the cyst out.  -- Bht. 100 000++ seems a bit like a rip off for something so simple, or maybe i am missing something .

Hope i can get it more reasonable at Queen sirikit in Sattahip

The price is high because Gavin has quoted a GA (general anesthesia) rather than local.

It would be worth your while to ask why a GA is needed.

An overnight stay is standard practice for patients undergoing any procedure under GA.

Mind you, even once you have a estimate for outpatient  under a local at Phyathai, Queen Sirikit will still be cheaper, likely 1/2 to 1/3 as much.

But long waits and red tape, multiple visits will be needed to arrange it, and there may well be a wait list to get the procedure done.

Up to you if the cost savings are worth it.

Note that wherever it is done, the cost will include not just the FNA but also biopsy/cytology of the fluid extracted.

The 250 baht test would be as good as good as the 750   baht  blood clotting test there and then  prices are rupees, halve it for baht

FNAC test has been found to be reliable when performed by a well-trained health professional. Confirmation of benign and malignant tissues and fluids is done by FNAC test. Surgery is not necessary in case of benign tissues whereas in case of malignant tumor, surgery is required.

Following instructions need to taken into consideration before FNAC test:

  1. A week prior to FNAC test, Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), such as ibuprofen, naproxen are not allowed to consume.
  2. No food intake is allowed before few hours of FNAC test.
  3. Blood clotting test needs to be performed before two weeks of FNAC test.
  4. Antibiotic prophylaxis may be needed.
  5. There can be need of blood anticoagulant suspension during FNAC test.

Accuracy of FNAC test

To get accurate results, medical professionals performing the test need to be properly trained and should have experience in FNAC testing, biopsy and X-ray testing. Mostly, a cytologist or a surgeon performs this test. This helps in getting correct analysis.

That 100k price is not reasonable for FNA and probably in error as has been discussed in this thread.  Having lived in India would have no desire to go there for anything myself but agree medical care can be quite reasonable (but as anywhere getting a good doctor is all important and that would be likely be difficult - and for what this should cost probably not worth the cost or effort).  And if not a surgical removal it will probably require followup as they often come back.

I had such drained a few years ago by normal dermatologist at Vejthani Hospital.  It did require follow up treatment but after a few months completely gone and has not returned.  I do not recall the price but know it was not high (well below the 25k I was paying for plastic surgery operations) and followup was not expensive.

From past comments on Thai doctors, Id take my chance in India any day. Yes I too lived in India,(still have house there) not the fact of living there, seeing as Im now  in Thailand the medical care is second to none and as they (the Indian health -tourist sector are encouraging trained doctors there in US/UK to join them, massive industry  and no wonder, just saved myself a huge amount ,and good doctors there are not hard to find, fact is Id say it is harder in Thailand to find the same

Anyway, f he wants follow up,follow on at massive cost saving   Also it appears the 100,000 baht was a lower price than an earlier one, BPH   probably no mistake

I will continue to prefer to use the experienced Indian doctors here in Bangkok myself (and do use them).

Probably the same ones that do a week about there and here.  Fortis and Appolo, (and expensive) Indian hospitals were trying for a foothold here in Thailand I hear, but Thai medical mafia wanting to keep their thiefdom...sorry fiefdom intact

Reputation is everything there can google results, do not do it in Thailand, you will get locked up

..and while about it go get top of the range glasses (if needed) ask taxi drivers where good shops are , shirts made to measure take a big bag   you'll need it when visiting pharmacy shops etc.
