Why stop half way? To make this post useful, you should include them too.

The topic title is Penang holidays, not Royal Thai Consulate in Penang holidays. As each state in Malaysia observes there own set of holidays it is very useful information for those going to Penang.

Tropo, while you were at it, you could have looked up the Thai holidays here on ThaiVisa. Why repeat things that are already there as a pinned topic?

Lopburi, in fairness to TRopo - this thread IS entitled Penang holidays for visa runners.

We can fairly reasonably assume, on a Thai forum, that the visa runners will actually want to know the dates that the Thai consulate in Penang are open.................

A 30 day visa runner wouldnt go as far as Penang.

here they are for January for the CONSULATE in Penang should any one be interested........

January 01: New Year's Day

January 02: in lieu

February 03: Makha Bucha day

In lieu of 31 December, New Years Eve, which is always a holiday here. It is Sunday so next workday is the holiday replacement day.

So could we not also assume that if they are "visa runners" they live in Thailand so would know the Thai holidays?

to be honest i never knew it was a thai holday until... well it was a thai holiday.

i would say to my gf (local thai very active practising buddist btw) "wow what holiday is this one" & more times than not she would have to think long & hard or check the calendar for an answer.

so unless you are studying for thai some kind of thai history exam or perhaps the thia residency visa (that may require such knowledge) how can anyone be certain of the local holidays... unless of course you check the LOCAL calendar regularly?

I would expect that most people check the calender before going out to the bank or a government office; regardless of what country it was. And I have never seen a Thai home without a calender on the wall.

Why is that? I'm not generally concerned with Thai holidays eventhough I live in Thailand. I live here on vacation so every day is a holiday.

If a guy's going to make a special post to indicate the Penang Consulate's holidays, it makes perfect sence to complete the list with any Thai holidays around the same time.

My banks are open everyday, 24/7. ie. ATMs. I never go inside banks. I have no calender on my wall.

well chalk one thai home up that doesn't have one... errr well did have a thai calendar in house... the gf just got a wall calendar from siam-commercial with all of the thai holidays listed. which i did mention was sweet. now we don't have to go out and find out everything is shutdown for a local thai holiday....

yes that happened more than once... going out with my GF, a local thai that didn't realize it was a holiday & even if she did know it was a holiday she couldn't always tell me which one or for what.

the GF is not a ditz if that is what you're thinking but i do think many locals don't quite know what all of the holidays are themselves!

No, I don't know every Thai holiday off by heart and if I was planning on doing a few visa runs to Malaysia it would have been more useful to have every Thai holiday listed here too. Why force the extra couple of clicks to get to that pinned thread when it could all be in one place?

Unbelievable. One simple post about holidays in Penang turns into a complete food fight on what else should have been posted. I don't know if I wanna fall on the floor laughing or cry.

To the OP, the post is very much appreciated.

To all the other lazy folks who need THAI HOLIDAYS, please use the god forsaken search function. Arai wa?

They would when there 90 visa exempt stamp days are used and its time to get a tourist visa :o

Remember that many people prefer to use Penang to get tourist visas than Laos.

Seconded.

This forum is full of great helpful information. It is stupid to complain that the information is not exactly to ones liking especially when the required extra info is readily available

Please read my original post again.

It is not specifically about the Penang Consulate Holidays, it refers to the Public holidays in Penang,

after another poster expressed surprise that Christmas day is a holiday here.

Yes, I do assume that you know which days are Thai holidays..........

as the Thai consulate will take all of them.
