English teacher found dead inside bedroom in Chonburi

 

A 51-year-old English teacher was found dead Saturday morning inside his rented row shophouse which was turned into an English teaching school in Phanthong district of Chonburi province.

 

The British national teacher was identified as Mr Bryan Patrick.

 

He wore only a black boxer shorts and died inside his bedroom on the second floor of the rented shophouse.

 

His death was alerted by his personal interpreter Mrs Tanannat Ziyago, 30, to the police after she and her Japanese husband broke into his bedroom when he did not come down as usual and didn’t answer to knocks on the door.

 

The couple shared the same house with the English teacher.

Was his death yet another closed conclusion of 'suicide?'

A teacher, whom I would imagine is educated enough to know how to take care of himself, is found dead at the age of 51!

Ok, he may have had health issues, but to be honest, I cannot accept, 'found dead' because It comes across to me, that these kinds of scenarios are seemingly very frequent here which makes me feel very concerned about my own safety.

I should t make light of his death. That was a little disrespectful of me. My apologies.

He used to complain with her that he had heart disease and didn’t know how long he could live.

But he refused to see doctor saying he had to take some medicine constantly.

Thamrasami Maneerat Foundation volunteers brought his body to Phanthong hospital for post mortem examination, as well as the medicines for check to find the exact cause of his death."

Being qualified (or not) to teach English doesn't imply that he knew how to take care of his own health issues nor does it mean he had the motivation or sense to seek medical care.

Fearing for your safety because someone who had a known heart condition died doesn't seem a very rational reaction. Imagining that dark forces are at work isn't a particularly "educated" response either.

People die from heart attacks at even much earlier ages.  No mystery, heart disease, and a whole lot of other diseases kill people long before their three score and ten.

The cause may yet prove to be something else, but if he was on medication for heart disease, it's a starting point, and very likely what killed him.

Clearly a suicide.

He had a heart disease. Why didn't he go see some specialists back in the UK ? Maybe it was incurable .  RIP -

Yes we sometimes jump the gun on things I have been guilty as well. I can relate somewhat to his comments on doctors and medicines especially at my advanced age. I have a friend with heart problems and a large monthly medical bill. He comments from time to time that the cure including cost of drugs seems to be worse than the disease. I am a big believer in watching the lives of others and how they react. At my advanced age what I do not know I don't worry about. RIP teacher not all are as lucky as I am.

He could have been strapped for cash who knows. Our minds all process information differently. 

Some people don't want to see a doctor and face the music.  They think not knowing keeps it from happening.   Some people would rather let the disease kill them. Doesn't really matter now.  Rip

I am 71 years old, and I am very aware that  at 71 I may be "found dead " in my room one day.

Hopefully, I will be found naked with a bevy of exhausted young Thai girls, but that is rather unlikely.

that is my plan also. i keep rehearsing every night but I don't die.

 

and then the girls just go home. I think all this exercise is keeping me alive.

 

 

Strange that a 51 year old Brit with heart problems opens up an English school in a run down shop house in some obscure sub-district and stays at the school with his 'personal interpreter' Khun Ziyago and her Japanese husband.

Possibly unrelated to the sad demise of Mr Patrick, but I do notice that middle aged and elderly friends and neighbours try to reduce costs by not running the aircon sufficiently cool. This is not the time of year to be trying to save a few baht. Distress caused by heat can sneak up on people quite quickly. Drinking beer is not the best solution.

He would have died of old age before he could see a specialist on the NHS

When i die, i want my girlfriend to be so upset that she has to take the day off of school to attend my funeral.

My understanding is that in order to get treatment under the NHS nowdays, a UK ex-pat would have to prove that he had returned to the UK on a permanent basis, as he can no longer just pop back for medical treatment and then return to his country of choice.

Too many uninvestigated and unexplained deaths of farang in similar circumstances throughout Thailand over several years by disinterested authorities is, I think, a valid educational experience.

I see very few reasons to swallow reassurances or promises from current authorities, particularly when it comes to matters dealing with personal financial  security or physical safety in society. Whether these matters relate to criminal activity and related corruption, work health or infrastructure, construction or even what ought to be basic, simple traffic control measures etc.  Lack of open and transparent decisions, the absence of integrity among responsible officials at any level, the power of greed and perpetuation of corruption - all seem to justify some level of paranoia among the  decidedly second-class inhabitants  generally described as "farang".in Thailand.

"Be alert, but not alarmed" seems to be fatuous advice against the backdrop of current political and social environment.
