Hi all,

I currently have a work permit that expires on the 14th May 2017 and of which I will be cancelling on the 12th May 2017 at the labour office in Bangkok.

I have an extension of stay linked to the work permit that expires on July 24th 2017, it is stamped Thai wife, so I presume it's a Non-O extension.  I have had the extension for 3 years so far.

I spoke with the staff on the 1111 hotline, and they told me that my extension will still remain valid until July once I cancel my work permit, and if I need to renew it I will then need to change the income requirements, currently based on monthly salary.

My question is, does this information seem correct as what I have read so far seems to contradict this!

I welcome any assistance from the people on the forum.

Cheers.

Info is correct since your extension of stay is based upon marriage. Only an extension of stay is based upon working ends when the job ends.

To apply for the new extension in July you will need 400k baht in the bank for 2 months or proof of another source of 40k baht income.

Thanks ubonjoe,

That's exactly what I needed to hear, been fretting about it! Does that also mean I do not need to notify immigration of my work permit cancellation?

Thanks

You do not need to notify them.

Edit: It would be best to cancel the work permit if you plan on working again.
