Palestinian presidential adviser meets with PM

BANGKOK, 5 May 2017 (NNT) – A Palestinian presidential adviser paid a courtesy call to Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and discussed the promotion of cooperation and relations between the two countries.

Palestinian Presidential Adviser on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash met with the premier as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Deputy government spokesman Lt Gen Weerachon Sukondhapatipak quoted the premier as saying the visit by the Palestinian presidential adviser was the opportunity for both countries to discuss the improvement in bilateral cooperation, including religious affairs, while Thailand was delighted to see closer ties between the two countries and more cooperation following an official visit of the President of Palestine last year.

Thailand expressed the readiness to host the Conference of East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD), and its will to expand cultural exchange activity.

The deputy government spokesman added both sides discussed a peace process in the Middle East where Thailand restated its position to support peace negotiations between Palestine and Israel for peaceful coexistence and sustainable stability.

Unlike the Thai military who were unwilling to do so with Muslims when it annexed the Muslim majority former Kingdom of Pattani into the Kingdom of Thailand and to current times. But perhaps the Conference of East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development could be held in southern Thailand as a demonstration of Thailand's peaceful coexistence with the Muslim population.
