The most stupid thing to do when you are on the run is to hide on a tiny island.

Just Methinks!

and I have always wondered why they don't go somewhere where they cannot be extradited.

Yup - that's how we got Harry Roberts back in the day; parked off in a wood. Not the best of hideouts when you want to maintain anonymity (although to be fair, it took a while to find him..)

Yep, 96 days and I remember coppers everywhere. 1966 seems a long time ago.

No need to praise the Thai police Since it is international the want to keep their uniforms pressed so to speak . Locals be damed

Prime example is the fugitive "Red Bull Heir" and the old woman who what beaten buy a gang of half brains

So far the police have been useless

Exactly what I was thinking ! He didn't kil anyone and people take drug BECAUSE THEY WANT.

So why so many grumpy people here ?

Jealous that he made a lot more bucks than you ? But just think, he certainly had bigger balls than most of you also !

Sorry Colin, but the information came from the UK police who have obviously been keeping tabs on the family, so RTP didn't find him per se.

Fair play to them though for following the son back to Samui for the arrest.

I expect he will serve some time for the stolen passport and then he can look forward to a longer sentence back home.

Yes - for once they were a bit "pro active"

The only aerial picture I found from Koh Mudsum shows PoorSucker is right (as usual:smile:) not a single house on this

tiny island.

from this picture ( far from the island ) , you can't see if there are buildings or people

low life scum keep him in prison in thailand for 10 years first before sending him to his 5 starr english open prison he is in thailand on a stolen passport worth 10 years

Much as I agree with your sentiments, he won't get an open prison in the UK for a long time. It's only prisoners in their last 12-18 months and occasionally 2 years that get open prison.

He could be charged for overstaying his visa or stamp on arrival, then lso for using the fake or bought/ stolen  passport and various other crimes. It is a separate offense each and every time he uses that passport for goods and services and entering and exiting Thailand. Which, if he has had it a while can rack up quite a sentence in a Thai prison.

The problem with that is then he is able to try and delay be appealing against deportation.

The RTP may just want rid of him for good relations and a feather in the cap with their UK counterparts. Relations between these two police forces suffered after a few incidents the last couple of years.

An Evil Thug who will hopefully spend some time in a Rat infested Cell! He has thrived on selling illegal substances and possibly ruined many lives so lets hope Justice takes it's course and he is dealt with by The Criminal Justice System found Guilty and putaway so he does not cause anymore misery. Does concern me when he is described as a "Baron" as this word is related to Nobility and there is nothing noble about a Rat who threatens his ex-wife and wanting to burn her house down?

Often wondered what happens when a fugitive like this is then police escorted back home on a 13 hour flight or more. I mean, the officers have to sit next to him for 13 hours? Is he still cuffed? Is he allowed food and beers? Can he still watch the entertainment system? What would they talk about? They can't be silent for 13 hours?!

A "little" cocaine? More than a little!

Crikey, it was only a bit of cocaine. Lots of prudes here, the stuff was legal in the good old days. But why are these people called Barons and Lords. Why not a drug Knight?

A "bit of" cocaine? More than a little!

Good!..Hopefully another scumbag will be removed from Thailand. Amazes me just how many low-life criminals end up here. Very impressive that the RTP managed such a slick operation. I'm sure the British police were in on it.... Well done!

yes, people had to buy wellingtons to wade through the streets.  and it was a conspiracy? so it didnt actually happen? and a major one at that. and if only it had been low grade cocaine. as I said, so much drama that you need a playwriter to translate all that, or a grumpy old keyboard warier expat I suppose

It didn't actually happen because he got caught! That's why it was called a conspiracy! i.e. :-

"con·spir·a·cy kənˈspirəsē/
noun . a secret plan by a group to do something unlawful or harmful."

And if it had hit the streets, the world as they knew it might have ended for quite a few people!

By the way I am not a "grumpy old keyboard  warier "("warrior" ?) and reasonably well educated so I do not "need a a playwriter to translate so much drama", (or indeed to teach me how to spell simple words) but I am a child of the "60's" and an ex musician not unused to the effects/world of drugs. but I have had a few friends whose parents would disagree whole heartedly with your sentiments. Try asking one or two reformed addicts (e.g. David Crosby of CS & N) whether  "just a bit of cocaine" is harmless? The same cocaine that sent him on the run from the police with an unlicensed pistol?

And from Wikipedia:- "According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, approximately 5000 deaths occur annually in the US due to cocaine overdose." (And that's just the US!)

So before you start name calling, and talking about "dramas", check your facts, mate!

Yes i understand that the UK police passed on info, but at least the Thai police got up off their backsides for once, and followed it up.

Yes true. Looks like the UK Police and border/airport authorities were lying on their backsides when they allowed a criminal who was convicted to 15 years in jail, to drive to the airport and fly out on a one way ticket.

it did hit the streets, its widely available all round the world. if they actually legalized it it wouldnt be cut with all sorts of stuff that is toxic and no doubt causes many of the deaths and people could openly seek help for their addictions, and they wouldnt have to do runners from the police with illegal guns
