PERTH: -- It's been four years since Courtney O'Keefe's cosmetic surgery nightmare, but she's still suffering serious health complications.

 

The 28-year-old has just become a mum but during her pregnancy she developed a heart-condition and her multiple post-surgery infections also mean she can't breastfeed properly.

 

She's had a double partial mastectomy, the only way she could get healthy after a seven-month hospital stint.

 

She speaking out again now, with the hope her ordeal changes at least one Australian woman’s mind about foreign cosmetic surgery.

Aussies are so gullible,  everyone is aware how dangerous cosmetic surgery is and more so in Thailand .... it's been reported many times of the risks to warn people over the years.

 

When are people going to start taking responsibility for their choice and silly actions  ?

Why take a chance?

Well as Thailand promotes itself as a medical tourism hub I dont think it is her fault for trying to save some money on cosmetic surgery. Some people on TV are just ignorant heartless a#$holes.

a Vet !

So the reason wasnt the surgical procedure, It was an infection that became a major health threat.  She should possibly have done her homework better.  Even the best hospitals have the same problems.  Many of the bugs are now immune to anti biotics. Thailand has had many happy endings for cosmetic surgery. No operation goes without risks

Judging by local standards, he seems completely over qualified. 

You live here that lady doesnt, what dont you get ? Go down to BKK and to some of the bigger hospitals they are full of foreigners from all over the world getting treatment. I guess everyone in the world is just not as smart as you are.

Oh and by the way when that vet kills someone go look in the mirror and ask yourself why you didnt turn him in to the local gov office. Maybe thats why there are sham doctors running around, people that know dont care about others.

Superbugs are a major problem everywhere, this is not a Thailand or Pattaya Hospital issue but Thai bashers will never accept that!

That is part of the issue; the other is that there is insufficient regulation of the industry generally ( not specific to this case). Any sleaze bag, shyster or con artist can put up a shingle advertising various cosmetic procedures/enhancements....even in shopping malls. No one regulates them and things DO go badly wrong from time to time.

The biggest worry is follow up and post op treatment , it's been well  documented over the decades and on news programs, quite a few  end up in the OZ surgery  with specialists trying to fix a nightmare, there are however reputable Thai surgeons that are properly qualified, however some just go for that cheap shot.

They just got a load of golden staph out of some Hospitals in OZ, this is always a worry, and the bugs are getting more immune each year.

If you had to have an organ transplant and the cost in India was a fraction of what it costs at home does that mean you will go to India to have the op.

No.   If one contracts an infection, it most certainly attributable to the surgical procedure.  These resistant bacteria do not float down from the heavens. They are introduced  through non sterile surgical theaters including non sterilized equipment,  failure to maintain basic hygiene, failure to disinfect the entry site of the patient prior to surgery,contaminated ventilation  systems which are not  balanced nor properly filtered etc.

Yes I would, india has a very high level of health care considering it cares for over 1 billion people. Im sure you have taken pharmaceuticals made in india. India has a very high level of educated citizens in all sectors of their economy. Im guessing you just dont like people from india from your post.

From the original report it says she went in the company of 9 other women - possibly all having the same or similar surgery?

 

Since it does not say do we assume the other 9 did not have any major problems?

And then there was the,  highly qualified, educated, professional doctor, with his own clinic, treatment rooms and minor surgical procedure rooms,on Soi Khaotolo, who when asked to recommend what form of contraception a 40 year old Thai woman should use, because she was in a relation ship with a 62 year old Ferang.The doctor told her not to worry, because Ferang men over 60, could no longer,father children.

Is the picture in the article of a recognizable building in Pattaya the place where the operation was done?  If so, I'm surprised she felt the place was dirty and not up to standards.  Although it is somewhat well-known to be expensive for foreign patients, I never heard concerns about cleanliness there.

You are wrong,the ignorance is in the one taking the chances of risk either without thorough investigations or not heeding the warnings presented.

thailand has a far worse problem than many countries due to their overuse of antibiotics.  

my girl has fantastic fake tits, having said that it is a sad world we live in where people risk their own health to try to look better.

Statistical data reference by country please, come on back up your post, you prob have no idea of your own countries use of antibiotics.

Generalization.....Do you need some examles from so called first world countrys for unsuccesful beauty surgerys. Try google.
