Sokha under fire for toilets claim

Featured Replies

Opposition CNRP leader Kem Sokha has told overseas Cambodians that a lack of toilets is creating miserable conditions for people at home. Mr Sokha’s criticism was captured in video footage of a meeting with supporters on Sunday in the US city of Seattle. The video, posted on Facebook, shows Mr Sokha saying: “Can you believe it? There are no toilets in homes yet.”

He said some people in rural areas had to defecate or urinate in fields along the road while travelling by taxi because there were no public toilets. “It is so miserable,” Mr Sokha told supporters. “I could not let the country be like this.”

The video did not include what else Mr Sokha told the meeting, however he said on his arrival back at Phnom Penh International Airport yesterday that Cambodian communities in the US appreciated and supported the CNRP more strongly than before. He said that during his 17-day tour, overseas Cambodians asked about his party’s ideas for leading the country.
