soi lurker
This movie will be best seen on dvd as opposed to theatre. Its a good laugh if your into offbeat and twisted humour. Anyone who goes to see this as a movie in theatres may be dissappointed, as its more a doco and if you approach it that way, you'll see the lighter side. Classic when borat and his trusty companion fight naked.

phillip2006
Great movie, loved it even the girlfriend thought parts of it were funny although she did ask my a number of times if borat was gay and, why was i watching a gay movie. I think the kissing men and, the swim suit convinced her. Lol
libya 115
The funniest movie I have seen in a long while, in some parts I laughed so much, Chang actually came back up through my nose. Recommended. That nud_e fighting scene alone will win S.Cohen an Oscar.
taxexile
QUOTE(Archie Bunker @ 2006-12-25 17:24:37) I've got a problem with an Israeli Jew playing a muslimwhy dont you elaborate and tell us all exactly what your problem is about this , (and as another poster has already pointed out , he is not an israeli.)but I'm happy to see that pirated copies are being sold so that Hollywood won't see a dime of profit you're not the only happy one. mr. cohen is surely laughing all the way to the bank as he is reputed to have made over 6,000,000 pounds sterling so far from this film. deservedly so , its a funny film and he's a talented fellow. hughden
Archie appears to be a US resident; maybe he is upset that Borat is so successful at illuminating American bigotry. There again, maybe he is indeed just a cock.

Jookster
I think that Cohen targets easy, 'nice!', people like southern state racists/homophobes, frat boys, etc etc. But I think that there is some real questionnable agenda in that he is Jewish and seems to be playing a very homophobic, anti-semetic, misogynstic Muslim (also take note of the very pro-Jewish/ aren't Jewish people nice bed and breakfast scene). Which is further compounded by his first character 'Ali' G with his Uncle Jamal, middle eastern accent (under the youth speak) and so on. Nothing wrong in showing anti-semetism and supporting Jewish people but its the anti-Muslim agenda too that needs to be questionned. Many with not agree with this, but after thinking about it, google shows there are other people thinking on similar lines. And I know many will say, how do u know Borat is a Muslim he say's he isnt............... ALSO!! If you have seen Cohen for years on British TV like myself, the film just isn't that funny. Two scenes are rehashes of previous ones, with Borat and Ali G. Edited December 26, 2006 by Jookster

Hollywood Zionists won't make a dime off readers of this forum nor will they make even a fraction of what the great Mel Gibson made off Passion. Goooo Mel Can a person be banned simply for being a bigoted phuckwit? This the same fella who made a post about getting "attacked" by someone who made a "derogatory racial statement" to him, but it couldn't have been his fault because he was only on his 2nd beer at 8AM. On a more positive note, I look forward to seeing the movie... isn't Cohen the actor who plays Ali G? That character is hysterical too. vegas
I bought a copy at MBK yesterday which is 100%. Silom, Sukhumvit, Panthip etc always sell shit cos they know most people won't return them. MBK will accepts returns and the staff tell you whether the DVD is 100%, 90% etc. I was going to buy the new Mr. Bean movie but the girl told me not to bother cos it was poor quality. Great service. taxexile
But I think that there is some real questionnable agenda google shows there are other people thinking on similar lines. when going to watch a comedy film , its best to throw all thoughts of agendas in the trash bin before entering the cinema. too many people seem to imagine hidden agendas these days , most of them emanating deep in the obscure canyons of their twisted psyches. its just an ordinary film , that will never be a classic , never win any oscars , its just a few laughs. no need to analyse the thing so much. agendas my ar5e , lighten up. While The Dude has not seen this movie, he takes not that it got mindbogglingly high ratings from movie goers and critics alike. The Dude, however, is not convinced but this is likely more due to his movie genre taste than the particular movie in question. Comedy is tough nowadays as much of it has been done before. A comedy that got very low marks this year was Pink Panther but The Dude thought there were some hilarious moments in that one thanks to Steve Martin. The Dude just doesn't know how much more ridiculing of southern racists that he can take. He has seen this done hundreds or perhaps thousands of times in not only comedies but most other genres as well. It is just not new, it's played out

Jim Abbott
This will put to rest what Cohen is and where his loyalty lies: [edit] Israel & Judaism Baron Cohen was a member of the Jewish Socialist Zionist youth movement Habonim Dror[1], and in 1989 he acted in their presentation of Neil Simon's play Biloxi Blues. [2]) He spent a year in Israel at Kibbutz Rosh HaNikra as part of the Habonim Dror Shnat program before going to university.[3] Baron Cohen keeps kosher and generally observes the Jewish Sabbath, refusing to answer the phone on Shabbat.[4][5][6] As a supreme jest, while playing the anti-semitic character Borat, Baron Cohen frequently speaks in Hebrew. He also sings the lyrics from an old Hebrew folk song in the Borat film, and identifies his country's greatest scientist, whom he says discovered that a woman's brain is the same size as that of a squirrel, as "Dr. Yarmulke." Baron Cohen's maternal grandmother, who is ninety-one, lives in Haifa, Israel Baron Cohen is engaged to Australian actress Isla Fisher, and the pair plan to wed in a traditional Jewish ceremony. Fisher has converted to Judaism, and has received the approval of Baron Cohen's observant Jewish parents.[13] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacha_Cohen Edited December 26, 2006 by Jim Abbott

meadish_sweetball
He's Jewish, and yes, he's taking the piss out of antisemites. Borat is not overtly muslim though. There are some scenes which were not included in the movie (may still be on YouTube) that shows Borat chanting mock orthodox Christian prayers (at the dinner table of the upper class Southern family). cdnvic
This will put to rest what Cohen is and where his loyalty lies: All you've pointed out is that he's Jewish.
