Jonathan Fairfield
National Theatre bomb blast called ‘accident’ as part of strategy : City police chief Pol Lt General Sanit Mahatavorn said on Wednesday that he wanted to strategically mislead the culprits when he initially described a bomb blast at the National Theatre as an accident involving a falling sign. He said the strategy on May 15 was to allow police to conduct a secret investigation. Sanit went to the scene on Monday after the sound of a blast was reported in front of the National Theatre on Rachadamneon Road. Although two people were injured from the blast and an advertisement sign was damaged, Sanit maintained at the time that the loud noise was caused by a sign falling and shattering. He said bomb disposal officials checked and did not find a trace of explosives at the scene. However, on Wednesday he said that his statement was a strategy to make the bombers believe police would not pursue the investigation. “Actually, police have secretly investigated the incident. Components of the explosives were already found at the scene that night,” he said. At first, police could not collect evidence at the scene because there were a lot of people walking in an out of the building. But later, police blanketed the area and found components of the explosives about 30 meters from the scene. Psimbo
I hope this guy doesn't carry a pistol because he's certainly good at shooting himself in the foot. 'Part of a strategy'? All this has done is heighten the strategy of showing the RTP to be a bunch of incompetent Keystones. Maybe THAT is that strategy, lull terrorists into a complete state of complacency by making them think the cops haven't got a clue then swoop on them (or not). 'At first, police could not collect evidence at the scene because there were a lot of people walking in an out of the building'. So all useful forensic evidence lost or contaminated- priceless. Also, they clearly didn't learn from the bomb down south about the possibility of a secondary device- Muppets. canuckamuck
They are very clever. They have lulled the bombers into a false sense of confidence, making them believe that the police overlooked the bomb despite investigating the site. I suppose the clever turn is that the bad guys will think the police are dumb, when they are really very cunning. And then of course they only told all the good citizens of this bit of trickery (in an official statement) just to assure everyone that they were only playing at being incompetent. No bombers are known to have read the news today, so shhh, the game's afoot.

rkidlad
So why are we not allowed to believe you in other instances? Reminds me of my old Thai boss who simply wouldn't ever accept being wrong or looking weak. In order to save face, she just kept losing more and more. It was painful to think this woman was in charge of anything. Everyday was just an ego boost for her. And some poor sucker was paying for all of this. edwinchester
"At first, police could not collect evidence at the scene because there were a lot of people walking in an out of the building." Absolute clowns, gobsmacked that they would even admit this but the fact they have shows how incompetent they are. Area should have been cordoned off immediately but congratulations on giving any defence lawyer the perfect opportunity to argue a contaminated crime scene. But it is "strategic" incompetence.

steveyinasia
A plan to hide the real facts from a concerned public, sounds like a normal police plan to me. Sometimes they are so good at hiding facts, they actually look like they are doing nothing.
