BANGKOK: -- The Foundation for Consumers will launch a class action lawsuit against the importer and distributor of Korea King cooking pans on behalf of 109 buyers of the kitchen utensil.

This came after Wizard Solution, the sole distributor the controversial cooking pans rejected the foundation’s offer to mediate with the company on behalf of the consumers but would directly deal with them.

Foundation secretary-general Ms Saree Ongsomwang said Thursday that the class action lawsuit would set an example for the business sector to pay more attention their advertising to make sure that their products match with the advertised quality.

Mr Sitthawat Pakinsakulpat, a volunteer lawyer, said consumers would get fairer treatment if the collectively lodge a class action suit instead of separately filing cases.

I still don't know what the problem is....jealousy ? Construction claims wrong? price tag unrealistic high-low?

Woodie?

Then the speed which this case has been handled

They....consumer protection board has 6000 cases on file for review, that discourages many legit complains.

Suddenly it's a Korean wok which sets the board in all out alert?

protectionism?

Perhaps someone high up in the food chain bought one and wasn't happy!

There are a gazillion product-oriented pyramid schemes, and Multi-level Marketing scams here. No clue why this pan-job has drawn so much attention?

They were blatantly taking the piss in their advertising and selling the pans at a crazily inflated price, while pretending it was a bargain.

Fairly standard procedure for the TV marketing of this nature.

Anyone watching these shows where a super expensive product is available "only today" at what appears to be a huge knockdown price, should try to remember that a fool and his money are swiftly parted.

nothing more than a few dozen people trying to save face. truth be told, there nothing in this that points to protecting consumers. the fact that these people can afford to buy KK pans means they have loads of spare change to spend. people dumb enough to believe that they're saving 17,500 baht for a pair each of non-stick pans and fry spatula deserve to be "scammed".

Actually it may benefit the distributors who will be able to collectively file defamation lawsuits instead of individually.
