Sodium Hypochlorite

Featured Replies

Hi, does anyone know any manufacturers of Sodium Hypochlorite, where I can purchase large'ish quantities, happy to get 1,000 litres or more if the price is right.

Swimming pool shops are OK but want to cut out the middle man and save a few baht.

Cheers,

Just watch how much you are buying in one go, it doesn't have a great shelf life, especially at temp above 25degC.

It will last longer at lower concentration. So if you buy say 20% solution, dilute it 1:1 down to 10%.

Bulk suppliers, sorry, don't know.

I'll drop you a PM

A months supply of sodium hypochlorite, should be more than enough for any one to store especially at 10%.

Most sodium hypo sold is actually a by product of chemical manufacturing. ICI in the UK started the trend as a way to get rid of it

Though an effective disinfectant the by products in it do play havoc with the TDS.

There are companies about that do manufacture it specifically for pool use not sure in Thailand but in Europe it does  command a premium in price.

Sodium hypochlorite is mainly used in the UK for sterilizing drinking water mains on new construction and post repair/rehab.

@sappersrestWhat do you recommend as an alternative for pools here in Thailand?

I have a salt chlorinator system but use hypo every week to give the water a boost.

My point about hypo going off was that you don't know how long the supplier has had it in stock so you may think you got 20% hypo but actually it's more like 10-15%. It will degrade much more slowly at 10% so buy it at that or dilute stronger solution to 10%.

I don't fancy dragging down to Pattaya or to BKK every month for hypo supplies.

A source that actually manufacture a  more pure product or other powder forms of chlorine.

Sorry not much help.

Sodium hypochlorite solution contains nothing more than water, sodium hypochlorite and some sodium hydroxide.

Trichlor tabs contain other ingredients in addition to the above and are more likely to increase TDS than sodium hypochlorite alone.

That only applies to sodium hypochlorite manufactured for the purpose of disinfection  and not sodium hypo supplied as a by product there is a big difference. unless you can actually trace through a  quality control purpose you do not know what you are getting.

If you are buying high quality sodium hypo it will have calgon added to prevent blocked injectors  essential in water treatment works and commercial pools with auto dosing.

Unless using a specialist feeder triclor tablets should not be used in a pool .
