I am quite confused now. Some one says factory reset is secure enough to destroy the data on the phone. But someone says it is not. The data can be recovered. I want to know as i will sell the phone soon.

Nope. I did that but the files still be available under data recovery tools. Tested on my OP3

If you knew the answer why did you post it as a question?

Get your answer in writing from Samsung, if they are wrong then maybe you have some redress in law?

But I would think factory reset would do.

Beware of snake oil salespeople trying to sell you a program that will wipe or otherwise "hide" your private data.

When a factory restore is done, some apps will remain on the phone, but all the data associated with them will have been removed.
Also make sure you take out the sd card, as data will be stored on there, which the factory reset will not touch.

Before you do a factory reset, uninstall all your apps first.

To be honest, removing the SD card and doing a factory reset should be more than enough for sale to a regular person.

A data wipe with one of the many security tools first cannot hurt.

A reset suffices for most mortals unless you are working in the white house.

if they recovered my data all they would find are assorted lewd pictures of private parts

they're welcome if they can stomach the sight.

As I mentioned before encrypt and factory reset. There are many tools available to search for deleted photos, videos etc, and there is a small chance that a savvy user could find fragments of photo files on a reset device, but encrypted files renders these tools useless.

I don't mind sharing the porn staff, lol. However, i am more concerned about  my privacy. I got several suggestions that encrypt the phone and do the factory reset.

I once had a similar situation , the all the phone data can not completely deleted from phone by factory reset , you'd better use the tool to clean up your phone before selling

factory reset won't completely wipe your Android phone, and data still be recoverable with easy.  I know some Android data wiper could be able to erase data on Android, like safewiper for Android, but it's not free, you need to register. the trail version allows user to wipe 50 files. I used the trail version.

You need to connect your phone to PC via USB and back up your data.

Encrypt then factory reset is good advise. After the reset the encryption key will be permanently lost and the encryption is good enough for mere mortals.

Don't forget to encrypt the SD card as well if you plan to leave it in.
