Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has barely spoken to the media for a full week after he was hit by furious political comments on questions he posed on the yet-to-come election.

While still speaking at public events which he has presided over, Prayut has uttered only a few words, instead of usually lengthy responses, when questioned by reporters.

Every Tuesday, when the weekly Cabinet meeting is held, Prayut normally talks to the media for about half an hour. However, last Tuesday he refused to give spoken interviews and instead scribbled responses to reporters’ questions on sheets of paper.

A source close to Prayut said that he would continue the practice for tomorrow’s Cabinet meeting.

Last week, the Government Spokesperson team took Prayut’s handwritten notes and sent the transcribed text to reporters via the Government House’s chat room on the Line mobile app.

On Monday, when queried about his tentative visit to the US next month, Prayut briefly said: “There is no confirmation yet.”

In order for the visit to proceed, the Thai government would first have to receive an official invitation from the White House before the two countries can work on dates.

The initial invitation was made by US President Donald Trump in April via a fifteen-minute introductory phone call with Prayut.

Oh, diddums! Uncle Too needs a big hug to make it all better!

He's obviously becoming a bit "unhinged" which is worrying as he wields absolute power.

He feels insulted, so he is going to hold his breath until...

Problem is the media doesn’t know their place. They keep asking silly questions about inconsequential things like elections. Some of them are even using forbidden words like c**p, or j***a. This is bad…very bad.

The role of the media is not to ask questions, but to listen carefully and to transmit Uncle’s thoughts to the rapt and adoring masses. Nothing more. Anything else is heresy.

The media only needs to learn how to show proper love for Uncle; then all will be well.

You are better off standing there looking like an Idiot rather than opening your mouth and remove all doubt!

So he isn't actually going to the U.S on an official visit next month.  Hasn't even been invited yet.  The junta is extremely good at making comments on behalf of others that always blows up in their faces.

'While still speaking at public events which he has presided over, Prayut has uttered only a few words, instead of usually lengthy responses, when questioned by reporters'

A very polite way of phrasing 'towering narcissist'.

Maybe even he doesnt believe what he says anymore. Took long enough!

Poor wittle possum is spitting the dummy.

Why don't the media do something similar to him and just not turn up to press conferences he calls for maybe a week or two.

He would be begging for them to return.

cant see how no news is news; but i suppose better than listening to his drivel

Becoming?

He normally spouts a load of old cods anyway.

Silence is golden in this instance.

I believe these army guys consider this to be their last hurrah. They no longer have the moral authority, that was once bestowed upon them by the great man. So, their days of bloodless coups may be over. Done. Finished. And they may know that. So, they seem to be desperately clinging to power. Especially now that the excuse for them holding onto power is over and done. Desperate little man.

Who told you he wields absolute power?
