Not eating the likes of fruit or Veg except when liquidised, apart from potatoes or garden peas, does a fibre substitute make up for that?

I mean something like Mucilin SF?

For fiber content , yes. But you miss the nutrients and phytochemicals that benefit the system that way. Why do you not eat fruits or veg ?

Fruits obviously readily available and Veg prep is easy, steamed with a bit of olive oil and salt or make a nice hearty vegetable soup as I did yesterday. Do it for your health,.

I have tried to eat fruit and veg, it is not the taste as I can liquidize, when I was a young boy, say about eight years old, I watched my young pals all eating apples at Halloween. I tried to copy them and made myself physically sick.

Can you give me a recipe for the veg soup that you made, Do you use chicken or meat? Back in Scotland I used to make soup with a big juicy bone from the butchers, you cannot get them here. PM me if you like, my wife regularly makes me pumpkin soup, using only pumpkins, she calls it yellow soup, and it is great, very tasty.

Thanks, but can you liquidise it?  With me living up in the sticks, it would be hard to get some of these ingredients you mention.

Until Mrs Possum started to make me pumpkin soup, I would use sweet potatoes, carrots, white relish, all liquidized, then garden peas, stock, and a chicken leg.

I never thought of that, I always put the vegs in the blender before I cook it. Thanks.

What about porridge oats? They contain soluble fibre. Also very good for reducing cholesterol.

Yes I know, I have porridge oats most mornings. But I feel I am missing some fibre in my diet.

That's why I wonder if it will benefit me by taking a substitute.

Maybe more nutrients raw...but when you slow cook vegetables, it caramelizes the sugars in them, breaks down the cell walls, and takes any bitterness away. Cooked will taste so much better than raw.

Glad to hear that, I have always cooked my veg soup on the slowcooker, but Mrs Possum does not use the slow cooker for the pumpkin soup.

This is my own recipe. I pumpkin, 1 onion, butter, knorr stock cube, milk, corn starch, flour, chillie paste.

I chop the onion, put onion/butter in the pan for 3/4 minutes, then add milk, stock cube, pumpkin, chillie paste, bring to boil.

Turn down the heat simmer for 20 minutes, add 2 table spoons corn starch, 1/2 cup of flour, stir for 6/8 minutes, let it rest for a few minutes then serve it.

You could also add oat bran, which is available in Big C, Tesco etc to your soups and casseroles. it acts as a thickener, and also contains a lot of soluble fibre. I actually sprinkle it on my salads to help keep my cholesterol down.

Also add red kidney beans to your soups and casseroles and blend if you prefer.

Good idea, I will get that oat bran, although I'm not sure about the red kidney beans.

Kellogg's All Bran cereal is a very tasty high fiber cereal.  Each morning I have fresh fruit with plain yogurt, topped with All Bran.  Yum.

red kidneys, black beans, black eyed peas, split mung beans all available at local markets...tons of recipes on the internet for curries, soups, stews, dhal, chili con carne and etc with the other ingredients available in rural Thailand (substitute fresh tomatoes for tomato sauce and paste where required)...

robust bowel movements guaranteed...

Ground flax seed, wonderful & so convenient. Foodland and Makro (well, used to anyway) sells the seeds; grind in a blender & refrigerate. Read up.

Mrs Possum only uses pumpkins and water, no other vegs, and it turns out nice and thick.

Good job I read that Colin, there is no way I can eat onion or chilli, otherwise OK. Mrs Possum does not use any else at all, only the pumpkins.

That sounds good Nancy, apart from the fruit.

I have removed a number of inflammatory and off-topic posts and replies.   Continue and face a suspension.

I have not heard of people who have a medical condition that precludes eating fruits and vegetables, but one could exist.   I once worked with a guy whose son wouldn't eat meat from a very young age.   They use to punish him, reward him, pay him...almost anything to get him to eat some meat.   In his early teens he was diagnosed with a serious medical condition and it would have been greatly exacerbated by meat.

Oh, and the boy did not have a psychiatric problem, either.
