Small explosive device wounds one in Thai capital - police

BANGKOK (Reuters) - A small explosion in Thailand's capital, Bangkok, wounded one person on Friday, police said, adding that the device was a "ping pong" bomb hidden in a plastic bag.

The blast came a day after authorities said they had arrested a suspect in connection with an explosion last month at a military-run hospital in Bangkok that injured more than 20 people.

"It was in a plastic bag hidden in a bush and city cleaning staff went to pick it out and opened it, that was when it exploded," a police officer at the scene told Reuters.

Bangkok road sweeper injured by ping-pong bomb
By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A ROAD sweeper was apparently injured by a ping-pong bomb inside a bag found by a street in Thonglor on Friday afternoon, police said.

Pol Col Kachornpong Jitphakphum, commander of the Thonglor police, said the female worker with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration injured her right thigh above the knee and was rushed to Chulalongkorn Hospital.

The explosion occurred on Sukhumvit Soi 40.

Kachornpong said the worker was sweeping the road in front of Pathum Khongkha School and found a cloth bag hidden in small trees on the roadside.

The worker carried the bag with her but dropped it three times, so she decided to open the object – wrapped in black adhesive tape – and it exploded.

Kachornpong said it might have been a ping-pong bomb put there by students and may not be a device to cause public alarm.

Bad luck. They have charged the guy they arrested yesterday of every bombing they could, but they cannot accuse him of this one!

You underestimate the investigative skills of the Thai police in a Junta controlled Thailand.

It's either the guy they got yesterday or the two Burmese who did the Koh Tao job - DNA results and CCTC will be presented within a week.

Municipal employees were hit by ping pong bomb, not by an explosive device of the type used during the Bangkok bombings

Mauvaise pioche.....

He could have put it there before he was arrested.  They'll pin this one on him as well; case closed.
