Hi,

Think this is a simple question, but I have a hard time getting an answer.

Let's say I have a company, and WP, and run one, or several, restaurants.

As a manager am I allowed to handle cash when a customer is paying for the food they have been eating at the restaurant ?

I have heard that a farang may never under any circumstances handle cash. Is this true ?

If so, does this apply to every business ?

Hope someone can clearify this for me !

As far as I understand, although I have never been in exactly the situation you describe, you are allowed to work only in the discipline that is the reason for your work permit. If you run a restaurant then you are likely the Managing Director and those are the only duties you are allowed to perform, not a cashier, not a cook, not the maitre 'd as they are all positions that can be filled by Thai skills. However maybe you get a Restaurant owner on this forum who can confirm for you.

Not sure about your position, but if part of your job description (as amended) on the work permit is to train staff, you should be able to demonstrate any job in the business. :o

My wife, swedish, has a WP and had a store. One day the immigration walked in, not identifying themselves, :D and bought a souvenir. After paying for it they identified themselves and asked for the WP.

My wife showed it to them and they said that she can not handle cash and therefore fined her. :o

After asking around, we were always told that a farang can not handle cash.

Maybe Sunbelt can clearify the "It is not true" a little bit.

Many thanks and a Happy New Year to all of You.

The question was

I have heard that a farang may never under any circumstances handle cash. Is this true ?

This is not true as it is allowed if your work permit states you can. Yes we have gotten work permits that states they could be the cashier as one of the responsibilities of being a MD
