BANGKOK: -- Police have warned people on Facebook and Line to watch out for hackers posing as relatives to steal money.

Earlier today Wallop Buarot, 49, took his daughter Chompoonut, 17, to Phrapadaeng police in Samut Prakarn to report how she was conned out of all the savings in her account.

The sweet talking hacker of her uncle's Facebook account talked her into parting with money to help him buy some goods. She thought she was talking with her 64 year old uncle Jamlong Sukkleung but it was an imposter.

The hacker asked for 12,000 baht but seeing as Chompoonut only had 5,000 baht she sent that to a Kasikorn account.

Police said that the son of Jamlong had also had his account hacked and had been to see them earlier, reported Daily News.

They warned netizens to double check requests for money in person and to be careful doing anything like this online.

A valuable lesson for the young girl. Also, a great excuse not to lend family members money. "Sorry, but how do I know it's really you?"

My friend who sells stuff on her Facebook got her account hacked once, what was her password? Her phone number which was all over her facebook post and profile....

Don't laugh many Thais use that as their passwords, their birth dates, their phone numbers, their names... many simply don't know what is account security.
