A bomb explosion hit an army truck in Narathiwat’s Sungai Kolok district on Friday evening, injuring eight soldiers and two passers by, including a two-year-old girl.

Initial information showed that a Narathiwat 30 Army unit truck was on a patrolling mission in Lubohsama village, Tambon Pasemas, at about 6.15pm when the bomb went off.

A man and his daughter were among the casualties. All were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Apparently the Cabinet's allocation of Bt599.91 million on June 20th to nine security projects in the southern border provinces in a bid to curb the ethnic Malay insurgency hadn't yet filtered down to the Sungai Klook District yet. That said, an Army unit truck on a patrolling mission was an obvious potential insurgent target.
