Crossy
... put customer returned units back on the shelves without checking them first. Just got back from <big Thai DIY chain>, needed a new water heater, existing one died after 5 years and I can't be arsed to fix it. <Big Thai DIY chain> had the exact same unit on display (no new holes needed), two on the shelf. But the nice lady tells me I can't buy them as they are "no good". A chat with the English speaking manager showed me the marks on the box label indicating that the unit was a return (both were marked) and there was no guarantee that it would function. If they are not going to sell them why are they on the shelf? Bought a different brand, slightly cheaper, drilled 3 new holes (used one of the existing). QED. KhunBENQ
Supermarket chain with UK/Thai name : bought a foot pump for motorcycle/bicycle. Should I have wondered that the carton was not intact? Unpacked at home and... completely unusable And: never throw away the receipt (how small the amount may be)
VocalNeal
Tried to buy something one time. No cannot. Reason? If we sell that one we don't have one to show to customers! That being said I found an illuminated magnifier, looked but couldn't find and others already in the box. Farted around and found an empty box probably from the display one. I had two other items. Bill at cashout was quite low but TIT. Walking away from the store and examining the receipt the magnifier was priced at 0.0. Obviously the display one. It still works. carlyai
It's like people have all these pens in a container on their desk. When they go to use them they don't work, so get put back in the container, not thrown away. This happens everywhere. The other day while at a local hardware shop I borrowed one of the pens in a container, and it didn't work, so I threw it in the bin.As I was leaving, the pen was fished out of the bin and put back in the container.Same with flat batteries. Never thrown away, put back in the drawer.I'm the only one in the world who throws away pens and flat batteries (or so it seams).Sent from my SM-J700F using Tapatalk

I know shops where they say nothing, and when you come home you find out it doesn't work, then have to return and wait till eternity for a replacement tto be ordered. canuckamuck
Never buy an item in a resealed or broken package here unless there is no alternative and you have to have it. There's a reason it went back on the shelf. In regard to display items, I recently went looking for a chainsaw. In one major DIY shop they only had one on display. There were three employees having a chat close by and they saw me go over to it. I went to pick it up and at the same time heard them gasp. The thing fell apart in my hands and parts bounced onto the floor. Trying to act casual, I said "do you have any in box?". No they said, that's all they have. "Well good luck then I'll be on my way." eyecatcher
rule of thumb is never to buy anything that has been opened.....people do open boxes and steal spares, Having said that.... I always open a box to dig out the instructions so I can educate myself about the appliance instead of wasting time asking questions to a smiling moron
wpcoe
I had a back and forth "discussion" about buying a certain washing machine at Home Pro once. In the end, they relented and sold it to me, and as we were finishing the transaction, their designated interpreter came by and said she was amazed they sold it to me. Apparently the display models belong to the manufacturer/distributor and not to the store and, as such, are not sellable.

Than there's the returns if you can stomach the process. It's a drawn out gig that requires patience. Global likes a mug shot with your defective crap. kamalabob2
I've had the Global House store staff in Buriram take my photo for a returned item. I understand their reasons. That has not my experience in the hardware store today when I bought a name brand garden leaf blower. It was demonstrated to me in the repair department before I paid money. I've personally had better buying experiences of brands I know and trust, in any Thailand store, rather than a Chinese brand sold only at one store under a knock off brand name. Bozz chop saws are not Bosch Tools. I'm loath to buy a display unit in Isaan unless all the parts and warranty paperwork is still in the box. kamalabob2
Not the quality or design of an imported Husqvarna petrol chainsaw, Stihl Chainsaw or a Makita petrol chain saw, but a 1200 baht optional chain saw device added to a Honda 4 stroke brush cutter that caught my eye in Buriram. Strong ladders are fine for getting to some high small branches at our village house garden, yet I can see the virtue and value of this 12" chain saw attachment in Thailand. It was demonstrated near the solar power panel display before I bought this chainsaw.

The local tractor shop in the big village where I buy a lot of brush cutter accessories, nut, bolts, washers, grease, oil etc has one of these. I may buy one to replace the Stihl chain saw which requires a complete dismantling to change the chainoil feed pipe which cost me 3o baht. I have wasted more blood, sweat and frustration chaning that pipe than the chainsaw is worth considering the amount of use it got.
kamalabob2
It seems some builders merchants stores allow you to test in real Isaan Thailand situations when you get a Makita 4 stroke brush cutter repaired or buy a new Honda UMR435 backpack brush cutter. Changing cutting blades on a Honda petrol brush cutter was done with a smile in Buriram today.
canopy
I really wish they were not allowed to open the boxes in the store. This is a strange oddity of Thailand. Frequently every single box have been opened many times and even rotated out to be on display. Things get lost, broken, dropped, and scratched up. I have seen things in the box in worse shape than what is on display. I have witnessed 2 homepro locations the most peculiar thing. I tell them I want to buy something and ask if they have one in a box. They then rummage through the opened boxes at what is available and discover none is quite right. They then dump out and spread the display unit and boxed units all over the floor and disassemble them all to make one "good" one. When they do this in front of me I say no thanks I came here to buy new, not refurbished goods. And remember that with homepro you can always order anything they have online at the same price. kamalabob2
A wooden box was opened today to set up and test a hydraulic pipe bending machine in Buriram. Now cattle feeding stalls can be made from stronger metal pipe. If the box was not opened I would wonder if all the parts were intact and I was able to test the pipe bending machine. This pipe bending machine was ordered on Monday and it arrived on Thursday.
