Hi, I'm planning to do a visa run (I have a Thai Non-imm type O multi-entry) from Hua Hin to Ban Pu Nam Ron. My question is do you need to apply in advance for a Myanmar visa before you cross into Myanmar. Or will they issue this at the border? Thanks.

You will pay 500 baht for a border pass to Myanmar.

After clearing Thai immigration you pay 950 baht for transport across no man's land that includes the 500 baht fee.

Recent reports are the driver of the vehicle used takes your passport to Myanmar immigration while you wait. Then turnaround and come back.

Ubonjoe, please would you know if this border is open everyday? Or closed at the weekend? Thanks.

All border crossings from Thailand that are open to foreigners are open every day of the year, but land crossings are not 24 hours.

Thanks for the replies. Planning on taking the wife & kids and having a weekend in Kanchanaburi so that will work out well, I can do the visa run on Sunday.

Just did it yesterday (25 April 2018) Yes, I can confirm that that is roughly the cost (B960). For us it proceeded without any delay or incident. We had arrived at the checkpoint (just outside of Phu Nam Ron) by Minivan from Kanchanaburi and it took less than 30 minutes in total. We departed Thailand officially at the Immigration office, paid the company that takes you to Burma (the fee mentioned earlier). They drove us over there, waited 10-15 mins while the guy got our entry and exit stamps for Burma, then drove us back to the same spot where we "entered" Thailand again.

Yes you can buy cheap cigarettes and alcohol duty free.

The tricky part of organising the day if you've come all the way from Hua Hin is the timing of buses/minivans. From what we could tell we caught the last minivan from Phu Nam Ron to Kanchanaburi for the day, so if you had managed to get a minivan TO the checkpoint (which is just out of Phu Nam Ron) after about 2:30 pm, you would be probably left with few options for getting back to Kanchanaburi. Apparently after this time hitching a ride is your only real option.

On reflection we should have stayed the night in Kanchanaburi. All in all it was 14 hours in minivans for the day. Exhausting.
