BANGKOK, 12 July 2017 (NNT) - Officials from the Ministry of Labor have been instructed to foster an understanding of the new alien worker law.

Labor Minister Gen Sirichai Distakul said many employers are not complying with the new migrant worker law while instructing labor-related officials to seek cooperation from the employers.

The government has enforced Article 44 to delay the enforcement of 4 Sections of the new law in order to give illegal migrants time to obtain legal documents.

Meanwhile, Director-General of the Department of Employment Waranon Pitiwan disclosed that Myanmar workers have been urged to acquire a special letter indicating their intention to have their nationality verified at nationality identification centers located in Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Chiang Rai, Tak and Ranong.

Unlike Cambodian and Laotian workers, Myanmar nationals are not required to return to their home country to get certificate of identity (CI). Migrant workers who do not have the certificate can ask their employers to file a request for such document at a migrant worker employment center in their provinces from July 24th to August 7th.
