PM says all Thais must be held accountable if reconciliation fails

BANGKOK: -- All Thais of different political shades and groups must be held collectively accountable if the government’s attempt to work out a national reconciliation blueprint fails, said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha on Tuesday (July 18).

 

The above remark by the prime minister was in response to a comment on the government’s reconciliation play by Jatuporn Prompan, chairman of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), that the government must solely be held accountable if the reconciliation plan does not work.

 

Prime Minister Prayut said that, for reconciliation to work and become successful, it requires voluntary cooperation from all stakeholders, including all political factions and groups, noting that he could not force any group of stakeholders to join against their will.

Idiot. How is it the population's fault if they resist and reject an illegal government's forced doctrine of obedience and outright subservience?

I look forward to the day this regime crashes and burns. Beyond pathetic now ?

 

Sorry but if reconciliation fails then it will be down to you - and you will (one day) he held accountable.

So if "reconciliation" - no doubt defined by him - is not achieved then the Thai people must be held accountable!
What is the sanction?

It's easier to fire the manager than replace the team.

In other words ''It will be all your fault and not mine''.....How typically Thai !

Somehow I feel that this statement is to cover up his team as he feels that it is going to fail. 
So how are they going to hold an entire nation accountable? put them all in jail? 

If it fails, I see only 1 responsible, not 60 million

But you can and do force them from not speaking or gathering in public.  Where is the junta efforts in reconciliation other than blaming the average Thai if it does not work?

The good general has full immunity from prosecution.  Now he wants to put the blame on the average Thai for the sake of his "legacy".   

I think he scared ptp win election. If they win election mean junta fail and thai people win

I always say countries deserve their governments. Thailand deserve this junta because the whistleblowers created the climate for the coup. But as this junta continues I believe that Thailand deserve a better junta than this one. Can we have a new coup and get another junta inplace thats better than this one please. I cant take it when a person with full absolute power fails and then tries to blame others.

Despite how bad the military is, even they deserve a better leader than Prayuth. You could say his ability, or lack thereof has totally destroyed the reputation of the Thai military. Not that there was much to destroy before but he has managed to anyway.

I guess he has used section 44 to ban mirrors?

I'll make sure my 80+ years old mother in law takes her share of blame. 

PM Prayut is becoming a serial cop-out merchant. Whatever he organizes (which is just about everything) in Thailand, that ends in failure (which is just about everything) always seems to be someone else's fault. One of the defining signs of a weak leader.

Makes no difference. The current government are deliberately spending so much money that whoever gets in will be arguing with the other parties from day one. Which in turn will probably mean a return of the junta saying well we told you so.

How can the average Thai be held accountable for reconciliation when they are not in the pecking order to receive a Brown Envelope from Red Bull so as to maintain Boss's freedom. Spare me days! As every for every one of them this man gets richer.

Anyone seen an audit on the good general's wealth lately?

There just is not enough clay left to mold a new one.  The last coup leaders seemed more affable.  They and Abhisit wanted elections.   The current crew are less intelligent, more aloof and far more ruthless. 

I keep detecting echoes of the xenophobic rants of Pauline Hanson in this fellow's recent statements. I also love the glib use of Thai euphemisms like "cooperate" when the inference is clerar that the the authorities who cancelled democracy by force of arms insist on imposing a "cooperation" principle that need not apply to those wielding the arms to "protect" (another delightful euphemism) Thailand.  Reassuring and uplifting for those who consider themselves more equal than others. Yep, you can tell the boy means business Eyebrows pointing upwards in the centre, nostrils flared striding forwards as though he's on a serious mission, so Thailand better watch out!

That's it blame the audience and not the messenger of section 44 who can exempt himself.

Not to worry, I think if there is something you learn fast here, it's there isn't any accountability in the first place, it just gets mai pen rai'd away.

 

He should still consider switching to the comedian (comic?) industry, he'd be nailing it good. I'd probably, for the first time of my life, attend a live show, I'll even pre-oder!

No Mr Prayuth - don't blame the Thai people. You and your military mates must cop the flack. You overthrew a legitimate democratically elected government because you thought you knew all the answers. If you can't perform then get out of the way and let the country get back to democracy, warts and all.

its a silly idea thats never been explained anyway, are they aiming for a one party state where elections are no longer necessary? usually known in western countries as a dictatorship, or sometimes an absolute monarchy
