However, I do not understand why a man should commit suicide for a lady at this age? If it really were a suicide than poor old man was really in love, in the extreme depth.

There's no fool like an old fool in love, as the old saying goes.

I never fail to be astonished at how guys who you think would know better (claim to have seen it all, done it all, been in Thailand since before electricity, etc) fall in love with girls who are obviously on the game.

Remembering back through several years of ThaiVisa threadsm it seems January is "suicide season" via balconies of tall buildings - around 20 or so last year, and two so far this year.

Is it linked to tourism high season and gullible first timers?

Yep, looks like it .... There are a lot of dubious "suicides" here, and especially in Pattaya; but there appears to be a heck of a lot of guys who are maybe terminally sick, or at the end of their tethers, who decide on a "final fling" here before ending it all. I doubt Thailand would be advertising itself as a "regional hub" in this respect, but it seems to be that way....

there really should be a law against this sort of thing as its insanity, not bloody necessary and can never work.
