Thai resort denies Kate Moss wedding rumour

PHUKET: -- A luxury resort on Thailand's holiday island of Phuket on Tuesday denied rumours that British supermodel Kate Moss wed her rockstar boyfriend Pete Doherty there on New Year's Day.

Britain's Daily Mail newspaper reported that the on-again, off-again couple had wed in a romantic Buddhist ceremony at the exclusive Amanpuri resort.

But a spokeswoman of Amanpuri, who declined to be named, denied reports of a wedding ceremony between the 32-year-old model and her 27-year-old boyfriend, who is battling drug addiction.

"There was no marriage of Kate Moss and Doherty. The couple haven't even stayed here," the spokeswoman said.

"Our rooms have been totally booked since a month ago and there is no space for the wedding," she added.

British press have been reporting over the last few days that Moss travelled to Phuket to bring in the New Year at a lavish party thrown by socialite David Tang, also attended by Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.

They are all staying at Amanpuri, according to the Daily Mail, which said a 40-minute wedding ceremony outside the couple's villa was attended by friends and family.

Thailand's immigration chief declined to say whether the celebrity couple had entered Thailand, but the Amanpuri spokeswoman said they in fact stayed at the Tri Sara resort, also on Phuket.

However, a receptionist and a spokeswoman at Tri Sara denied that Moss and Doherty were guests there.

Located on the coast of the Andaman sea, Amanpuri consists of 40 pavilions and 31 villas, and is one of the most exclusive resorts in Thailand.

The villas in which the model and musician were reported to be staying cost about 2,400 US dollars per night.

Doherty has in the past been fined for possessing illegal drugs, including crack cocaine and heroin.

Moss, one of the world's highest-paid models, has recently resurrected her career after drug-taking revelations when a newspaper published pictures of her allegedly taking cocaine.

Thailand has very strict laws against drug use, with traffickers sometimes sent to death. Those caught in possession of illegal drugs face lengthy prison sentences in Thailand's notoriously tough jails.

Moss denies marrying Doherty on Thai beach

By Sally Peck and PA

Last Updated: 2:16pm GMT 02/01/2007

Kate Moss has denied that she married the singer Pete Something or Other while on holiday in Thailand.

Reports had suggested that Twatty and Moss were joined by family and friends for a Buddhist ceremony in Phuket

The supermodel and pop star are reported to have made a formal commitment to each other in a private beach ceremony during an exotic New Year break.

But her spokesman Stuart Higgins insisted that the model was simply on holiday on the southern island of Phuket.

He said: "Contrary to various entirely false media reports today, there has not been any kind of marriage ceremony in Thailand. She is on holiday."

The couple were photographed celebrating with champagne at a villa overlooking a beach on the island.

Moss was pictured barefoot in a silver dress, while Twotface wore a black suit and his trademark trilby hat.

It was reported that they had undertaken a 30-minute ceremony to formalise their relationship.

Wedding services including Buddhist prayers, the pouring of blessed water and entwining of flower garlands are popular among visitors to the romantic Thai island.

But such ceremonies are not legally binding and British participants must still undertake a civil service in the UK.

Moss, 32, and The Twotster, 27, are tipped to tie the knot on January 18, and have asked friends to keep the date free, The Sun reported

They attended a party thrown by tycoon socialite David Tang during their Thai holiday.

The Duchess of York and her daughters Beatrice, 18, and Eugenie, 16, were also reported to have been staying on the island.

Moss and His Twottyness's rocky on-off relationship has been well documented since they met at her 31st birthday party at her home in Primrose Hill, north London.

Speculation over their wedding has been rife since the couple revealed their engagement in October.

Twotterty, frontman of pop group Babyshambles, is serving a two-year supervision order for drug offences.

Meanwhile Moss's modelling career has flourished despite being photographed allegedly taking cocaine in a music studio.

Bookmakers who have taken bets on the couple getting married this year said they are "living on borrowed time".

David Williams, of Ladbrokes, said the bookmaker has closed its book on the pair finally tying the knot.

But he added that the firm is offering odds of 4/1 that the couple will divorce before 2008, and 10/1 that a divorce will be followed by a re-marriage.
