The family of a woman strangled to death allegedly by a school director in Trang province is to seek police protection after the suspected murderer was granted bail by the provincial court.

The family of the victim, 33-year old Ms Ladda Jindakaew, a villager in Tambon Khao Wiset, Wang Wiset district, reportedly feared for their safety after the suspect, Mr Winit Akkarasuwankul, 53, director of Ban Nong Khla school, was given bail by the court after his arrest on Thursday (July 27).

Police in charge of the case, meanwhile, said that they had witnesses and enough evidence to proceed with the case to the court.

There is something very wrong with a justice system that allows those charged with murder freedom on bail.

Not only that, the Thai legal system allows convicted murderers to remain free on bail for years whilst the appeals are heard (provided the murderer is sufficiently tied in to and high enough up the prevailing power structure of Thai society).

It is indeed very wrong.

I would not worry , he is surly making plans to skip bail and leave the country tomorow

If you understand who he is and you understand how Thai criminal investigations, prosecutions, trials and sentencing work, you will know that that is the last thing he will do and the last thing he would want to do. He just needs to keep working his connections and his connections' connections within the patronage network.
