Another occasion when I wished the "Like" feature was working

IT IS! Something new I discovered awhile ago. Just hover yer mouse over the "heart" ( usually to the right ) and click on yer choice of likes, dislikes or whatever.

Weeell as an alternative option, they might learn to treat tourist's as the guest's they are,, limit the possibilities of them getting ripped off by the numerous scammers, taxis, etc,,,, Quit making those that actually live here as expats, jump through hoops to stay legally,,, It's insane to require someone that's lived in the same place for 5-10+ years, to STILL report in every 90 days,,,, And investigate, "suspicious" Farlang deaths more than 5 minutes before declaring them suicides,,,, Just a thought,,,,,

You're serious, ain'tcha? Oh, oh, ohhh...You DID insert the word "might". Sorry.

Both myself and my wife have turned 70 and have exactly the same level of cover including for Pre Existing Medical Conditions that we have had for several years. Every claim we have made has been successful including hospital costs incurred in Phuket when my wife was diagnosed and partly treated for breast cancer and repatriation costs to get us home for completion of the treatment, fully successful and now fully covered after our return. Also the full costs of our return to Thailand last November other than recoverable from various bookings when she had to have another none connected operation, again successful, again covered  when we returned in January having been given clearance from the op to fly. People who assume they are covered for all risks are their own worst enemies but the worst are those who don't take any insurance at all.

Any chance of getting the name of your insurance company??

It is UK Insurance which is provided through my Nationwide Plus Bank Account. I pay a monthly sum for the account which includes, among other benefits, World Wide multi trip cover for up to 60 days per trip. Because we are in Thailand for up to 5 months each year we pay an additional single trip premium which covers all our existing Pre Existing Medical Conditions with no excess for any claim. That premium is currently £300 which compares with the cheapest quote I could get for a comparable policy from other insurers and brokers of over £1000.

I'm not sure tourists will be more attracted to Thailand with cheap travel insurance as it is already available globally. Only if it is made mandatory then will it be helpful.

Cheap insurance = weak coverage, so how can that be attractive ...??...

I doubt if most tourists have travel insurance.

Most tourists ( I always do) have holiday insurance - what is needed is the operators and businesses  to have proper insurance - Snorkeling trips, jet skis, ferry boats, coach companies, parascending operators, taxi companies, zip line rides, fair ground rides, parachute rides, car rental, motorbike rental.......have I covered everything that kills and maims tourists here  ? If I have not please add to the list.....

If you mean the total number of tourists you are probably right. However, of the total probably most Chinese and Russian tourists don't but I would think those from most other countries especially  European, Australian and US would. If a cheap policy was made mandatory on all tourists those who already have insurance would be penalised by subsidising those who haven't and would probably continue with their own insurance as it would, or should, have better cover than a "cheap" one size fits all Thai Tourist policy.
