SAKHON NAKHON, 31st July 2017 (NNT)-The Ministry of the Interior is urging every province to make sure that the allocation of donated money and essential items for flood victims, is being handled transparently.

Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of the Interior, Grisada Boonrach today visited flooded areas in Sakhon Nakhon province where he also discussed with local authorities the assistance available for flood victims.

Despite receding flood levels in some areas of the municipality, those living in the vicinity of Nong Han Lake are still coping with severe flooding.

Following a report on the mismanagement of some money and survival items donated to help flood victims, the Permanent Secretary reiterated in an address to the local authorities that the money and the donated items must be distributed to those in need and carried out according to established regulations.

Donations made to charitable and public organizations for flood victims must be accompanied by documents as proof, so the authorities can identify the donors. The move is also to ensure that the money and essential items are going to the flood victims as intended.

And the 'list' should be easily accessible to all so that:

- 1. Donors can check if their donations have been listed.

- 2. Locals can see where each donation went.

Nothing is transparent in Thailand when it comes to money distribution. These donations will not be an exception and the definition of "needy" will become conveniently flexible by the time the funds trickle down to the local administrators.

It is the well known knowledge that with donations, only a fraction of the donated

monies or goods are reaching their intended destinations with many hands

dipping into the donated lots... and  it's no different in this country either....

A government minister shouldn't need to ask specifically that donations to charity should be seen to be transparent as this should already be accepted as  normal government  criteria regarding public charity donations to the needy.

No, but generally there are far more "hands" here.
