KAMPHAENGPHET: -- A worker trapped in a weir clung to rocks for three hours before he was successfully rescued.

The drama happened in the Mae Ping river at a dam area where some workers were dredging in Muang district of Kamphaengphet.

Five workers ended up in the water after a long-tail boat capsized.

Four managed to swim to safety and were picked up by a fishing boat and taken to hospital.

But one man - named later as Rungroj, 49, from Sukhothai - was swept away into the weir and saved himself by grabbing hold of rocks.

It was several hours before foundation staff managed to get him free.

The boat was also later recovered.

It was more likely that it was several hours before someone (one of the four survivors?) remembered to look for Rungroj.

This is one lucky guy, as I am sure there have been way more people who have drowned

by having a boat problem during floods, and not having a rock to cling to until rescued.

Geezer
