DSI announces progress in illegally imported super cars case

BANGKOK, 2nd August 2017 (NNT) – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is preparing to take legal action against the importers of 91 high end vehicles on which they failed to pay duty, costing the state billions of baht in lost revenue.

DSI Director-General Paisit Wongmuang and Deputy Director-General of the Customs Department, Chaiyut Kamkun, today announced progress in the illegal import of super cars case, making known the Customs Department has forwarded an account of the taxes owed on 91 of the illegally imported cars to the DSI, indicating 1.165 billion baht is owed to the state.

The DSI has begun the process of having those involved in the crime pay the tax, noting that among the 91 cars evaluated, some incur over 30 million baht in tax.

The DSI head also inferred that British authorities have confirmed that some of the cars discovered in Thailand are those reported stolen in the United Kingdom and closer coordination has now been initiated.

The department responded to word that investigators on the case may be replaced by others, saying that a change in personnel would not disrupt work on the case.

 "...preparing to take legal action..."

Most likely the time it takes to "prepare" is directly related to the  increase in  the assets of those doing the preparing.

As it was mentioned here before, none of it would have been possible without the alleged conclusions

of some of the people in some government departments, namely the custom, tax and motor vehicle

departments...
