Thung Song Hong police superintendent was ordered to carefully study the ruling of the Criminal Court regarding the death of former Phuket and Phang-nga land official Thawatchai Anukul before proceeding with an investigation to find out who was or were responsible for his death.

Pol Lt-Gen Sanit Mahathavorn, the metropolitan police commissioner, said Saturday that Thung Song Hon police must know whom the court ordered to be questioned and who were suspected to be involved with Thawatchai’s death.

The court on Friday ruled that Thawatchai was put to death by someone else who were not identified.

He said that police were ready to summon officials of the Department of Special Investigation for interrogation, but he declined to name their names. He added that he didn’t feel heavy-hearted about the case even if there are no footages from CCTV system at the DSI head office at the time that Thawatchai was put to death.

Meanwhile, Thung Song Hong police superintendent, Pol Col Mana Pohchuey, said he was awaiting for Thawatchai’s case file to be sent to him by the public prosecutor.

This will go straight into the 'who cares' basket.

There is no film or photos, so there is no more evidence, get it.

A sad form of justice in such a public spat.

So the police will summon d.s.i. officers.

OK but what for?Maybe a chat and a beer while they concoct a story.

Nothing is ever going to come of this, police, d.s.i. are all corrupt, wouldnt know the truth if it was in front of them.

Pol Lt-Gen Sanit Mahathavorn the Metropolitan Police Commissioner a fine upstanding member of the police force who accepts an unexplained 600,000 baht per year from ThaiBev is reminding other fine upstanding police officer, Pol Col Mana Pohchuey of the Thung Song Hong Police to be open and honest.

Irony doesn't get any better than this.

Obviously this guy knew quite a bit about dodgy land dealings, and the order came down for him to be silenced. Now usually they just throw they guy off a building (parking garages are a favorite) or induce self-inflicted lead-poisoning, and claim it was a suicide. If in custody they make it look like a hanging, unless a rare blood disorder can be found.

Amazing this has even gotten this far; time for a bigger broom/larger carpet.

Is this an accurate quote attributed to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, or is it the result of ill-considered translation?

If correct, it's quite an extraordinary sentiment for a person in a sensitive and very powerful position of authority to declare publicly.
