markuk Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Hi guys some friends of mine are coming to Thailand on honeymoon and are looking for some hotel recomendations, having never been here as a tourist myself i always find it difficult to suggest as they generally look for different things to me. So any recomendations for tourists for hotels in Bkk, Phuket and Samui? Cheers in advance.
THtraveller Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 It really depends on your friend's style and budget. Plenty of hotels in BKK, Phuket and Samui. Check some travel agents for hotel rate (foreigners will get the better rate at world travel agent, etc.) or from the Internet. Samui is a nice place. A little harder to get there except you fly to the island (not sure it is Bangkok Airways?), which is more expensive than the flight to Suraj Thani. Cheap flight is available for the first and the last one about Baht 2,000 one way (check with the airline again). Other flight operators fly to the province which take about two hours from the airport (Suraj Thani) to the pier and then another two hours to Samui Island. Train and bus take overnight to get to the pier. Not that convenient. Phuket is very easy to get by plane. Various flights and prices to choose. Honeymoon couple should get the car from the airport and drive around. I like Kata beach. Nice and quiet beach. I recommend Mom Tri Boat House. It is not too big place, but nice (I don't like big hotel). Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort is nice and private beach. It is big! Patong beach is busy with bars and shops, there are some boutique hotels around but not right on the beach. Anyway more detail in the Internet. Good luck and have a nice holiday.
Spee Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Hi guyssome friends of mine are coming to Thailand on honeymoon and are looking for some hotel recomendations, having never been here as a tourist myself i always find it difficult to suggest as they generally look for different things to me. I recently stayed at the Hilton Phuket resort at Karon Beach. It was absolutely wonderful, but also pricey, very spread out (70 something acres) and 3/4 mile from the main area in Karon. There were many other very nice looking properties closer in and probably quite a bit less expensive. The Karon Beach area was beautiful and wonderful by the way and I will likely be going back. In BKK, for me the Conrad Bangkok on Wireless Road near Ploen Chit is the place to stay. Beautiful, modern and some of the best hospitality that I've ever had anywhere. Also can be a bit pricey, but I prefer it when in town. I'm sure there are other places just as nice, as well as less expensive. As mentioned on other posts, if you're going to fly domestic on Thai Air, then it can be worth paying the extra few bucks to fly business class. If it's the first time to Thailand, then pick up a copy of "The Thai Food Hawkers Guide." It's a good street guide to popular BKK areas, as well as all the wonderful food to be encountered.
warwick7735 Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Hi Depends on your budget, but when I'm in BKK I use The Landmark, first class hotel cant do enough for you. Numerous Restaurants inside to suit all tastes. Walk out the lobby 50 metres up the road onto the BTS, you cant get closer than that. Warwick
