Their story in Belgium news

Day before home trip we were suddenly stopped at a intersection by a local policeman and immediately surrounded by other policemen who pulled off all our stuff from us and said we had to follow them, they dragged us in a taxi and escorted us to a police station, there they stuffed us in a dark room with seven policemen one of them pulled the golden chain from my neck. They threatened to stop us in prison for three days, unless we would pay them. One of them wrote 40,000 bht on a paper we tried to explain we did not have that amount of money with us which they did not believe, for an hour they've putting us under pressure at last they got tired and toke only 100 Euro cash from us. When I lied about the golden chain that's not golden they trowed luckily back to me.

That day we were robbed by the Bangkok police.

In the op pic. one see the (supposed golden) chain?

Well I leave the assumptions up to you guys....

indeed... :coffee1:   oh the stories i could tell, close friends as well...

Gentlemen gentleman.... (and ladies).... it's really quite obvious.

this is an ill conceived advertising campaign for an adventure holiday in LOS

come all ye faithful, ride the mad elephants, play with rabid dogs, risk death on death island, take a suicide bus ride, sword fight in Bangkok.... and get mugged up by the cops

youll have a ball breaking time in Thailand... ensure appropriate insurance...... no responsibility accepted :partytime2:

However, it is not known why the waited until they had returned home to Belgium to report the incident.

I would have thought that was pretty obvious.

Yeah, because they can get money from insurrance just for using more then they could afford.
Another reason is that idiots home might believe them. Here the police would just laugh. And that is because the story is fabricated and no evidence of anything exists. They don´t even know where they where when the men showed up, and they don´t know how they look. Also don´t know where they were taken. Probably no marks anywhere on the body of anyone of them either. Then again, 7 men took them away. Usually that means rape too, but now that either. There is absolutely no substance at all in this story.

It's possible that this was a real Police checkpoint, and if they found anything on them, then it could play out the way they said, although they must have left a few details out of their story if this was the case.  The Police were at it again at the top end of Sukhumvit Soi 11 on Sunday night - stopping Taxis and searching the passengers.

But is this the same Maxime Kempeneer who is a Belgian actress?  I'm not sure looking at the photo - but looks a bit like her?  So publicity seeking back home is another option?

... erm... your name fits... Get Real !!!...

Its been written numerous times in this thread, 100 Euro's is not an insurance scam !! its daft to even draw such a conclusion, besides insurance usually won't cover cash.

How could there be any evidence ?... you are drawing some crazy assumptions, usually that means rape ? WHAT >? No it doesn't !...  they cooperated... they weren't beaten...  so of course there were no physical marks.

When driving / riding around a new city it would be very simple not to recognize or remember an area especially under such stressful circumstances. I've been driving in Bangkok for nearly 20 years, know the city extremely well and there are still areas I'd get lost in and not be able to find again.

And the final question: Why would anyone even bother to make up such a story ?... there is no motive to do so

Seems a bit fishy. It is not uncommon for Thai people to pretend they are police and rob people. Has happened a few times to the older Thai folk in our village. Young Thai know to ask for some sort of ID, old Thai do not. Seems tourists also do not.

Oh I don't know about that WW old chum, just look at the scenario; one bloke and his attractive bird surrounded by Herbert's, probably armed and in the back of your mind there are the stories if the goings on in Koh Tao. Not a nice situation to find yourself in.

Its a shame that yhe the taxi driver wasn't one of those outstanding citizens who returns bags of untold riches seconds before the person who lost it gets on the plane etc. Story would have had a different ending.

How ow did they get 9 people in the taxi to Plod central?

Sorry old friend but neither of the above ever fascinated me, they just broke my balls and after completing my a levels I consigned them to history never to be revisited.

indeed, shocking and extremely frightening; could happen to any of us at any time ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, not just in Thailand...

definitely agree is NOT insurance scam, not for 100 Euros and a broken necklace- but as for the multiple other (not by you, but i'll address it here) comments judging the victims as "looking as if they don't make 8000 baht a month", etc- that is way out of line, it is not appropriate to pejoratively slag others for perceived wealth or poverty or class or status-

some of the richest people i've ever known putter around town in white T-shirts and blue jeans during the day,  :coffee1:

even here, it's a status symbol of sorts that offspring of the rich ferquently wear new  white T-shirt during day under an exotic/expensive jacket as symbol that they don't work, therefore there is nothing to stain or wrinkle their white T's

cant disagree with you. a dear friend of mine that coincidently puts around in old torn jeans and 50 cent beach flip flops was the youngest to serve on the bench for his usa state, owns a collectible porsche (think 951) , multimillion home and subsequently got a wharton mba post jd. extremely humble and extremely bright and his appearance typically could fit in at kaosan road backpacker hostel

Perfectly summarised. Well done indeed.

Nothing more need be said on the matter.

I think if people have those things in the back of their minds then they should not be travelling/living in the country in the first place.

Good point but it probably was initially consigned to the far reaches of their minds only to be recovered when the poop hit the revolving thing, maybe!

Because the last idiot is not born yet.

Off course 7 men, that identifies themselfs as police, under forms of kidnapping tries to get money of of people without really knowing if they have any they could get. Also purely in the handbook of criminals to just let their hostage go off after giving them only 100 Euro. Regarding insurrances you have thoose which have payouts for accidents as well as abductions, and it´s probably that road this couple will take. Probably planned same time the idiots bought the ticket.

This story stinks worse than my sweaty armpits.:cheesy:

But what about the guy who was shaken down by the police to the tune of 400,000 bht at the main airport, after buying a few things at Kingpower. He was taken to some place well away from the scene, and the whole episode was well documented, along with several other similar happenings involving other travellers. If this was an insurance scam she would not have told them that the chain was fake so that she could have claimed ! Sadly I find this story highly credible.

You comment about well documented cases, what about the other ones you know, the girl who cried rape?

Many more cases of tourists making up stories.

As most members know i am no lover of the RTP, in the 2 cases involving me corrupt policemen have cost me millions of baht.

I say again, this story stinks more than my sweaty armpits.

I can clearly see that credibility is the kind of believe that is created by the lack of reality. :cheesy: Did you really have to add highly too, it was funny enough before that.

Typically in this forum every commentator has the answer. Their own view and comment but with no supporting facts!

Where is the evidence? Where are the facts?

It's just like the USA mainstream media dreaming up stories to get at Trump.

Surely we can do better than that. Can't we?

No, we can´t do any better than this. It´s just the level you have to endure like a strong foreigner with a love for Thailand.

By the way. Nobody have to get at Trump. He just need a lot of help and a little push in the right direction. Meaning that somebody should relieve him of his duties, before he manage to show all the world how incompetent he really are. He already showed far over half of the USA.
