rooster59
Administrative Court held last hearing on Boonsong’s petition for stay of execution The Central Administrative Court on Friday (Aug 18) held the last hearing on a petition by former Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom, former Deputy Commerce Minister Poom Saraphol and three other ex-commerce officials for a stay of execution of a Commerce Ministry’s order freezing their assets to compensate for the loss in the G-to-G rice deals estimated at about 20 billion baht. The court is yet to rule whether to accept their petition or not. Mr Boonsong’s share of the compensation amounts to 1.77 billion baht while that of Mr Poom amounts to 2.3 billion baht. The other three ex-commerce officials held accountable for the compensation payment are Mr Manas Soithong, former director-general of Foreign Trade Department; Mr Tikumporn Nartvoratat, former deputy director-general of FTD; and Mr Akkarapong Teepwatchara, former director of Foreign Rice Trade Office. darksidedog
August 25th looks like being a very difficult and interesting day for the Government. I cannot see it being coincidence that the trials for 27 people charged with corruption in the rice pledging case are due to have their verdicts read on the same day as Yingluck. No easy winner for them either. If everyone is found not guilty, people will be angry that everyone got away with it, but sparks will really fly if they all, and Yingluck in particular are sent to prison. ezzra
Only by hitting the pockets of those greedy and dishonest people where it hurts the most, a message will be deliverd to the next batch of politicians who defraud and swindle the people's money to use as if it's their own..... Don't think Yingluck will be imprisoned, not for negligence. However, the ones charged with corruption in the fake G2G case, if convicted, might well be. Big difference in those offenses. As for sparks flying - don't think so. Without the flow of money to pay the mass agitators, they're not able to mobilize so many. And it seems no one here does much for nothing. I really don't see anyone that bothered unless someone pays them to be.
seajae
problem is that all those high up have always got away with it, now that they are actually being made to be held accountable and look like losing everything they are not happy and are refusing to accept their culpability in the events. Can only hope the courts refuse to accept their pleas and take everything from them as well as lock them up, if they do it may well signal a huge change to corruption in Thailand and make others very wary of doing anything illegal that will have an effect on them and their money, money is simply too important to them all to risk losing it or having it frozen and seized, way past time someone made them pay
tomacht8
Confiscation of stolen assets + fine + prison for all corrupt people who abuse their offices to rob the people. No matter what color their shirts have. Whether yellow, red, green, brown or khaki, no mercy and same judgments as for bank robbers please. wakeupplease
Are there enough prisons in the country, you only have to fart or smoke an E-cigarette here and its jail, the only exception is if you kill someone and come from a certain background. Lannig
Well, no, there aren't, considering the way they pack up 60 people to sleep in a 40 square meters or so cell in an inhumane way. Google for "Thai prison life". But they keep packing more.
TallGuyJohninBKK
When I first read the headline on this news report -- ...last hearing on Boonsong’s petition for stay of execution -- I thought, gee, I know these guys are crooks, but where did I miss that they had been handed down a death sentence??? tryasimight
Do the execution publicly.....definite message sent all who may feel the urge.... Do it once every five years or so. The message will sink in. Edited August 19, 2017 by tryasimight
