I met my now wife on Thaicupid. She has lots of stories from her and girlfriends about being a genuine girl on dating sites.

As others have said, the P4P advertisers and Nigerian money scammers ruin it for genuine girls, But punters looking for casual sex hookups and P4P, also ruin it for genuine guys on there.

My wife would get 10 messages a day, show me your boobs, what color is your underwear, can you come to my hotel room etc. She went on dates etc and was confronted with P4P offers or expectations of a quick coffee then up to the punters room.

A lot of single mothers on that site. I have met a few including one VERY nice woman that I still see to this day. Unfortunately the baggage of 2 -3 kids with an ex Thai partner puts most women on the blacklist.....as it should, if you value your wallet and sanity.

As a 60 year old guy with no plans or desire to start popping out a new family, the kids are a plus in my eye.  I have met few women that don't want to have kids.  It would be a little selfish (not to mention stupid) of me to expect a long term relationship without kids in the picture.  If I don't want to be paying child support and tuition into my 80's, that means finding one who already has kids.

Besides, too many of my friends here are pushing strollers well into their 70's because they found one without kids who convinced them they were fine with no kids....

Over the age of say 35 in any country it would be reasonably normal to have kids from a previous relationship,  male or female. I would see it as a red flag if they didnt. The filter I apply in Thailand is when they have kids who dont live with them, ie: bar girl in pattaya and kids live with granny in issan.

It`s well known that the guys go on those dating sites looking for sex and the women, a lot are time wasters, scammers or trying to obtain money from poor, sexually deprived old Farlangs. Quite a a lot of the women`s profiles are probably fake.

Young guys looking for free, hot totty, old slappers looking for a handout and old, lonely guys looking for lub.

I'd say that's 80% of it. However, I was able to meet a woman my age at the time (late thirties) that was childless, intelligent, spoke English well and wasnt a gold digger. I'd say that's the exception rather than the rule.

Does your pretty eclectic filter rule these potential dates, as described above, in or out of your potential 'Mrs Peterw42' group?

...but you're married already!

Back in the "good old days"when still looking around, and trying to filter out the bar girls etc. Thaicupid has it as an option to only show you with kids, without or with kids not living with etc.

So I gather you believe if finding a woman who already has kids, that this lets you off the hook for paying any costs towards their welfare and education?  Are you serious?

If a guy meets a Thai woman who already has children from previous relationships, the new old Farlang guy will not only be expected to support the new love of his life, but also her children and probably her whole family as well. It all comes as the complete package. Oh boy, are you in for a big surprise.

Not at all.  Even back home, women often come with kids in the package.  But 10 years of supporting her kids is 15 years less than supporting any newcomers we may pop out.  And I'm not foolish enough to believe a woman who says she's okay with never having kids.  It's possible, but the odds are against it.  And a woman that wants to have kids will have kids.  With or without the willing participation from any particular man.

I'll probably still be alive when today's 10 year old graduates.  The odds of me being around another 20-25 years is pretty slim. The odds of running out of savings on a fixed income with no prospects for working are much worse at the 25 year child raising horizon than they are at the 10 year mark.

And supporting the rest of the family isn't contingent on whether she has kids or not, so it's irrelevant to the discussion.

Edit:  And just to be clear, I'm not talking about chasing women for sport. There's a whole different set of rules for that, and I don't claim to know any of them.

If you are half decent looking and a reasonably polite chap then Thaifriendly can be a very good place to meet people for 'serious dating'. You may get your odd weirdo but you get that anywhere. However, be aware that there are many guys on the site, so girls can afford to be relatively choosey - which is a great thing for them as the days of having to date grandpa's are over for many who date for money.

Never paid for the site though, only worth it if you are looking to meet a few girls a day (many free apps for that so would be waste of time).

Met my wife on the site. She's all things Thai (affectionate, caring, cute). But also half intelligent, and a director of government department at age 29. So have ended up with a house I don't have to pay for, free health, schooling for kids, and her pension will be bigger than the Australian one when retires. Plus Thai government pay me if she dies. She had a few friends who joined the site after our wedding, so some reasonable, young, cute, independent women are on the site with good jobs, ie not after a farang's money.

But again, they have many options to go through and they aren't about to meet a guy that easy who isn't really worth their time. Apps are much easier to meet people - can meet a girl half an hour after talking to them. But there is a reason for that, usually many of the girls on the apps are meeting different guys on a nightly to weekly basis, so more of a fun thing.

How old are you? When I was on it I was in my early 20's. Really think they were trying to get money out of me? Every girl I physically met from the site had more money than me. Maybe you look like an easy target for certain members. But from my experience there are many on it not looking for money as they have this thing called an education and a real job. The fact you have been on it for 10 years probably gives us a good indication of the type of girls you are hanging out with.

Right, you was in your early 20s. It`s a totally different game for the over 50s guys. To be honest when I was in my 20s and 30s in the days before the Internet took off, I did not need to try and find girls on dating sites, in those days I had no problems pulling birds, either at parties, in discos and pubs, at work, and even local girls from my neighbourhood, and I wasn`t a particularly good looking guy either, but still found it relatively easy to get dates with girls. I can remember my phone hardly stopped ringing, people inviting out and to parties, then once I reach 50 it all sort of faded away, which happens once we start getting old and probably why the older crowds feel a need to join dating sites. But I wonder why young guys would want to join dating sites. Do they lack confidence or due to their addictions of the social media have lost the art of interaction in the real world?

Dating sites are good for all ages.  They have great search functions.   You can search by education, children or not, youngest age of children, hair color, length, English skills ( must be verified), height& weight, location, age, smoking, drinking levels, religion, etc.   The alternative is to meet someone at a night club or at the mall market.  Then you have to somehow learn all this info You think relavant before the relationship passes the point of terminal velocity.

Most people only have so much free time.   Using dating sites can be done in random periods of free time.  It allows selection from a much broader geographic pool than if you just rely on bumping into someone. Perhaps you can look at dating sites while at work or school or lunch.   This is why so many have their face buried in their phones.   Don't laugh until you have tried it.   Remember thinking this way when you were young?  To bad if not.

Actually; on Thai Friendly the majority of women advertising themselves on there, their profiles say virtually nothing about them except their age, the age groups of guys they are hoping to meet and maybe a few irrelevant words that they have copied and pasted from elsewhere on the Internet. Many of their photos are either several years old or photoshopped so as they appear younger or more attractive and I guess quite a lot lie about their ages, whereas a 35 year old is actually 40 years old. Another point; why would attractive young desirable women need to advertise for dates on cheap or free crap dating dates? That alone seems to be a red flag, whereas they are not seeking genuine relationships but rather it`s more about gold digging. I bet a lot of them already have loser hanger on Thai boyfriends in the background and are really fishing to hook stupid gullible Farlangs that will fall in love with them.

As for having limited free time, this seems to be a general excuse that people make these days. What about in the pre-Internet days? My parents met in 1947 at a bus stop in London while waiting for a bus.

I would say this; if guys see attractive young women advertising for guys of any age on free dating sites, buyer beware.

I actually have used paid Thai cupid for two 90 day stints. And datesinasia for free for a week. In a week I did find a very nice lady.  On TC this last time I swear I tried to only pay for one month  but they billed me for 3, and they turned back on automatic renewal.   So keep a screen shot of your time period billing page. And check auto renew on day 3.   Its About 1000 baht and a 1 month should give you plenty of quality contacts.  Assuming you can converse before and after standard Thai 8-5 day. If a gal wants to talk at 3-4 am Bkk time guess what that means.  Yes she is finished for the night.    Most dating sites  in USA are free for women.   On TC guys have to pay to Read the messages.  I have found most womens ages to be reliable. One was 5 years older but said she did this because guys wouldn't believe her.  You and I wouldn't either. A few are a couple years older than they say.  They seem to out accurate  height and weight, and education level too.   The body measurements are not accurate for some reason.  I guess Thai women don't understand the 36,24,36 " or 90,60,90 cm thing.  Most don't fill this  in anyway. If you have kept up with phone camera picture apps and the news you would know that 70% of all women's pictures posted on Facebook now have been taken using a beauty app.   Many don't even know that the line camera app is a beauty app.   These beauty apps automatically remove wrinkles, blemishes and years.   It's very critical to take the conversation to line video call asap To see in real and to make sure not a Nigerian man.     If a gal won't do video, you block them.   I assure you for anyone under 60 who has an attractive retirement future these dating site can be productive.    I'm not saying you should tell anyone your situation.  But is it wrong to say you can retire now and you have 60,70,80 or 100,000 baht a month to live on?  I would suggest going lighter than real.  Maybe some are willing to support a man who only has 15,000 baht/ mo but I think it's best to be somewhat honest here.   Of course don't expect to find out about the Truth if their financial situation.  I'm not sure yet how to find out the truth in This regard.  It can matter if you don't want them working till they are 60. And you envision asking them to cut back on work or retire to be with you more.

All these dating site naysayers coukdnt have possibly  ever tried them, or are not very desirable physically or emotionally.   Of course like most countries  women they care about what lifestyle you will live at.   Considering many nice Thai women go without heated showers ( bucket washes), and  without Aircon, most farang lifestyles will be an upgrade.

I admit I think the word is out, for a woman with some debt a farang may be the best option.  I've  heard  over and over  where the  Thai hubby at 40-45 left the wife and the kids for a younger gal.  This left the wife with all the responsibility and a dislike for Thai men.

A 60 yr old guy who has a beer belly and can't get a GF in his home country can't expect to get a 35 yr old hottie.  Unless he expects p4p.  But he can have a chance at a nice 50 yr old woman who may really take care of him.

Tell me how a 50 year old government teacher or nurse can search for a farang.  Dating site are well know and their only way.  They seem to not tell co-workers.   Many women have to exhibit a conservative image in public but if you gain their trust you just may find that typical Thai passion under a few layers.   All you naysayers just need to try it. Of course you need to weed out the scammers, sex workers and such, have reasonable expectations.

I should also admit I don't seek the stunning looking ones.   I learned to bypass those in 7 th grade.   I go for the smart ones ( usually means they choose college over lots of boys, also may mean they were not the top choices for looks, many of these sleepers have nicer bodies than they know or can reveal often in public, these gals tend to have  average or girl next door faces.   My favorite feature of penthouse all through the 80's.

I had too much fun doing that back home. I purely moved to Thailand to slow down before going to an early grave. My dad hates I live here but thinks it probably saved my life. Best way to meet someone living in a different country is online dating.

Now i have a daughter and a son on the way. A easy going job, big house and a couple of dogs.

You should write a book on how you achieved great success in Thailand where so many others have failed.

Glad to see the old 'granny grab' is working out for you too.

Grandma's would be no problem for me.   But not grandma's so far in the 39-44 age ones. This is a nice age difference for me at 57.  I will leave the 30 yr age gaps for you fellows richer and smarter than me.

People just need to be smarter the way they do things. I travelled all around the country with the Mrs before moving here, even the insurgency in the deep South where she was working at the time. It does two things, gets all the travelling out the way, but also teaches you about each other. What stresses each other, how reliant you will be on one another, and how you deal with conflicts. It also serves as a good time to meet the friends. I am closer to some of her friends than she is now. Will help the guy with the family when it is time to marry as the friends are also considered daughters so they will go into bat for you.

Thai are very generous. Of course I have dated women who were money focused, but those dates should only last the one night. If a Thai has a job, and is solely interested in the guy and not what he has, they will always either offer to pay full or at least their share for the date. They will pay for their share for something as small as an 8 baht bus ticket, or a 250 baht dinner - just like they do if go out with Thai friends. And most importantly will not expect 'gold' lol. A few farang teachers here had gfs, they always bought them gold. I bought my Mrs a blender for her birthday to help make the baby food.

I like at least half intelligent girls to converse with, so I generally used to try and meet girls who graduated from one of the better universities here (as we all know the poor standard of education). It meant the girl was either naturally bright, or she had come from at least a middle class family to get a half structured education. Private universities didn't do much for me as many buy their way through. Written English should be comprehend-able if she got a reasonable education, however, spoken English should not be amazing due to a 'lack of interaction' with foreigners. I got lucky, the Mrs scored second highest in Thai language in the country in M6, so had a natural connection to languages so didn't take long for her English to develop. If a girl speaks perfect English, she generally has met a lot of guys in my experience. That is when Thai girls being famous for their 'giks' I think comes into play.

If a high education then it will result in a good job, which results in the ability to be able to get a home loan (which is difficult for most in Thai). We. as foreigners, do not have legal rights to housing here, so I cannot justify paying for one.

A poster mentioned earlier about how some girls do not reveal themselves. The Mrs is cute, but the first time I went to a nightclub with her she got dressed in everyday clothes. She literally did not have a dress. So the next day we bought one. She couldn't look anywhere but at her feet whilst on the BTS out of embarrassment (took her months to feel comfortable). We do not drink, but we got a free drink with the entry, she was gone just off that. So I new that she was definitely not a party girl.

Finally, the family. The father-in-law does not drink or smoke at all. Worked hard his whole life and earns the combined salary of the wife and I combined. So he promised me when I moved here he would never expect money off me, including Sin Sord (even though he did have debt at the time). I told him straight up that I would never give him money. He pays for many things for our daughter like extra vaccines etc, will pay to have our garden maintained, cars washed etc. Is now wanting to buy us a bigger car with the second child on the way (already bought the Mrs a car that I drive and she drives his second car). Extended family should also go into bat for the guy after marriage. Numerous times uncles and cousins have told people to go away if they ever bring up the topic of farang/money.

I think many guys fail as they choose someone too young, someone they cannot effectively communicate with, or they choose to live in 'tourist' areas so run out of money. Also education is important here to be able to navigate your way around government systems. My Mrs is a government official anyway so it is very easy for her, but it seems many find it difficult on this forum and the wife doesn't seem to be able to work it out for them.

It all sounds just a little bit too perfect .Anyway good luck with it .I am imperfect myself and so is my Thai wife .We probably balance each other out in our imperfectness .And being rather naughty and evil we occasionally drink alcohol ,but do not smoke  .I don't have a Degree ,nor does my wife ,but she does have a profession ,and her own business .Been together 8 years .Still going strong ,but occasionally have arguments ,which blow over within a few hours .

Oh we fight like all couples do. That is why I said the travelling was important. To learn how to effectively communicate whilst fighting. Rather than just moving, having the stress of a new country on top of fighting. Once I literally sat her down on the pavement of a 7/11. Was a good way of taking the heat out of the situation as it was such a random thing to do, communication became a lot smoother. No one is perfect and many people have different ways to make things work, this is just my personal experience and what I found good things to look for.

I will put my bit in....disregard the negative comments, I've used that particular site on and off for a number of years, the simple truth is have a criteria in what your looking for, means know what you want from a woman, a payed member can set education standard along with several other criteria....USE it, I've always had it set at min education as bachelor degree and for a good reason, sure there are a few women that don't fill out there profile accurately it don't take long to work that out you move on.

It doesn't take to much effort to get a number of contacts onto line and your going to get a lot that drop off sooner or later and lets face it we don't match with every stunner that walks past you and the same will go for a website, hang in there fella sooner or later if you put the effort in you will get a number of solid contacts and thats were your special one my lay.

The guys having issues generally don't realise a lot of things that go on in Thailand....know the landscape as an example working hours of the women you want to date, a woman with a degree and what we would say in the west a good job are 5 days in Thailand many women work 6 days even with degrees so choose wisely, massage girls work to 10 pm or midnight you realise of course if you don't like her hours your going to be supporting her.. Shop assistants work 6 days a week and most will work the weekend so your never going to see her when your free unless its a weekday they also do shift...you should be getting the picture by now...

I met my current gf on TF and she is a single mum aged 30 and her ex has done a runner
she insists on working(home pro ) and has not asked for money from me she has a nice Thai style apartment that she keeps looking very nice
Obviously when we go out to meet friends and socialise I pay as I should do!!
We maintain separate homes at the moment but maybe we will move in together in the future but who knows
But she has not even hinted about giving up her apartment to come and stay with me
Sometimes she stays with me at my house and she has work the next day I pay for the taxi for her to go to work as my home is a long way from where she works
She is a fiercely independent woman and I admire for that
She is just a nice girl who wants some love and affection and stability in her life and she gives me the same
Not all the girls/ladies on TF are gold diggers so just chose carefully
Rant over
So to conclude not every girl on TF is a gold digging freelancer

Why 'should' you? Is it a gender issue or a monetary issue.

If a gender issue then, 'should' she have to clean the house or cook the dinner? It is 2017 now, surely we are heading towards some sort of equality where women who work also pay and men also do domestic duties.

If a monetary issue then surely people should live within their means rather than off others.

My Mrs looked at her pay scale last night, in 20 years she will be earning nearly 2 and half times more than me (both work in Thai). 'Should' I have to be the sole person who pays in this situation?

I used Thai Friendly in 2011. At that time TF said there were over 10,000 women.

I trawled all of them over a week along with my kids, specifically looking for younger ones who did not specify young ages in a man as I was 65 at the time with glasses and a belly.

I made a "short" list of 3 girls, one of them was a beautiful leggy girl of 28, her bio said little so it was her looks - stunning - so she was Number 1. Numbers 2 and 3 were pretty but wore make up and jewelry,  number 1 wore neither.

I wrote to all 3, simply saying "Hello, you are lovely, I would like the opportunity to get to know you."

All 3 wrote back. I discarded 2 and 3 and concentrated on number one.

She is still Number 1 and we have been married for 6 years now, I'm 37-38 years older than her and she was a UNI student working part time at Bata shoe to support herself at the time. After a period in the UK we moved back here. Now she has gone back to UNI to finish.

She is still beautiful, loves me all too clearly and not for money as we are poor, looks after me, and is fun to be with. She puts up with Thai gossip that she is with me because she is a bar-girl as people see the obvious age difference.

I love her, I'm proud of her,  we do fight sometimes, but she is a diamond wife in every way.
